Default towing with a CRV "classic"

hello boys and girls i can't afford a ridgeline. but i want to tow with a honda. i would *love* a passport or SLX, but my wife does not want them. she would like a CRV. BUT, i don't think they can tow enough for me. (major requirement) i know it's not the best idea, but i've seen people towing with subarus and the the like ok. i was thinking about 2500lbs MAX towing capacity would be ok for me. i was wondering if anyone has there manuals and if it says anything about it? or if anyone has first hand experiance? thanks guys. btw, man trans or auto? and i've also heard the valves like to drop?

it would also have to be an RT4wD version, not the FWD version. that willprobably make a difference.

oh yeah, this would be with the 97-01? CRV's. the OG B20's.

The towing limit is 1,500 lbs. You don't have enough HP or suspension to pull any more.

for the first gen, the manufacture recommended towing limit is 1000lbs. second gen crv's can tow 1500lbs (according to honda's manual). i believe 1000 lbs is the limit due to the lack of adequate brakes on the first gen. also, your transmission (5spd and definately automatic trannies) would probably take a dump on you as soon as you tow a large load. i tow a 12 ft aluminum fishing boat around in my 97 rt4wd just fine. i've also heard of someone who actually towed their crx halfway across the country. i wouldn't recommend towing close to 1000lbs for any distance or on hilly roads as this may cause tranny/diff/brake failure over a long period of use.

if you want to tow 2500 lbs safely, i'd recommend getting a v6 or better toyota. if you want something cheap(er), get a ford f150 or a chevy/gmc silverado 1500/sierra.

stick with the f-150, or trade it for a pilot or ridgeline, those are the only ones you can do much towing with. (the odyssey isn't bad but I wouldn't tow with it)
