just picked up my integra!
hey guys,
i'm new to integras, but not new to this site. I used to drive an EK back in the day and lurked around here sometimes. then got a WRX and jumped over to the suby scene for a bit. but now I picked up an Integra the other day. 1995 LS SE coupe, white/gray, 137kmi, bone stock, old-people-owned for $3800. wutcha guys think, not bad huh? I don't have any pictures because you all know what a white stock integ looks like
I don't plan on doing too much, maybe some suspension stuff and get into autocross. don't plan on modding the engine until I can maybe afford a T3/T4 kit. mostly I'm just going to be trying to catch up on the maintenance this summer when I find the time
I had a few questions for you guys that I didn't want to create separate threads for:
1) I've heard about the myth that using a 9005 high beam bulb in the low beams produces more light output? any truth to that? if so, theoretically, if I went the HID route, would it be smart to get the 9005 HIDs?
2) Anybody fabbed their own intake? I remember for other cars their used to be this adapter which allowed you to connect any 3" cone filter to the stock intake "piping". I'm balling on a budget right now (broke college student) and don't wanna drop $100+ on an AEM for 2hp gain; I primarily just want the reusable filter and the sound. Worst comes to worst I guess I can just get a K&N drop-in and remove the resonator?
3) I plan on doing the EagleOne Nevr-Dull thing to clean up my yellowed headlamps. Does anybody know if I can use this stuff on my tail lights?
4) I'm not much of a fan of the OEM LS small rear spoiler. I'd like to go with a wingless look. Does anybody know if its easy to swap trunks with somebody that has a wingless hatch? Or does anybody know if there are some nice hatch plugs I can use to plug the spoiler holes if i took it off?
5) There's something funny about the clutch. It never slips but the release point is unusually high. I'm going to try adjusting the pedal height and the slack, and I'm hoping this has nothing to do with the clutch master/slave cylinders. Anybody have any other ideas?
6) There's also something funny/scary about the brakes. When it was really hot out today, the brake pedal began to lose resistance and slowly sank to the floor when I was on the brakes for too long/hard. The brakes are not making noise so I'm thinking it's either the master/slave cylinders or maybe the brake lines? Any ideas?
7) What's the most effective wheel/tire size and offset people are running? I'm looking for the widest tire setup that will sit flush with the fenders and fit on the smallest diameter wheel. My guess would be something like 215's on a 15x7? I don't know about the offsets though.
Thanks for the help guys, I've been learning alot already about the car just by reading posts n stuff

-- I suggest you just go w/ a retrofit. Im in the process of buying and setting up for my retrofit. HID kit from ebay, w/ stock projector is horrid. Such a blurd cutoffline, you will be blinding everyone. PM me if you have any ?'s about this, or go to http://www.HIDplanet.com - look on forum section.

-- Just stay w/ the stock intake for now. It's not worth the money for the horspower gain. You want turbo anyway so no reason buying a expensive intake. Go spend the money on something else more needing the money spent.
3) I plan on doing the EagleOne Nevr-Dull thing to clean up my yellowed headlamps. Does anybody know if I can use this stuff on my tail lights?
-- I just did this the other day, but not with the restoration kit. I just used some like 409 and some oil wood treatment lol. (It actuallly worked too) Its all i had to my disposal. But a Headlight restoration Kit for 10$ works wonders. Yes you can use it on all head/tailights.

-- Not really hard to switch hatch's with some help. But not worth it just for the wing, you prolly can go to a local handyman store and fabricate something up for yourself. Cheap and effective.
5) There's something funny about the clutch. It never slips but the release point is unusually high. I'm going to try adjusting the pedal height and the slack, and I'm hoping this has nothing to do with the clutch master/slave cylinders. Anybody have any other ideas?
-- The reason why this happens sometimes is say, a aftermarket clutch w/ stock pressure plates. People tend to replace a clutch w/ a better one but wanna save money and don't buy the clutch kit.

-- That's your master cylinder going bad. It still is in working order, just going bad slowly. Mine is doing the samething, just too lazy/poor to wanna spend money on that. Still stops me if i pump it haha.

-- Im using Rota Sub-Zero's 15' w/ my car slammed on them. Im using 185/55/15 or 195/50/15. Forget but it's one of those, and seems to be working fine for me. Just make sure if you buy coil overs, and slam your car. Your gonna need front/rear camber kits. If not say bye bye to your tire tread.
</u>
thanks alot dude, i appreciate it. i need to get that Master Cylinder replaced ASAP, cuz it's startin to get scary haha. do u know how i can tell if i need to replace the Slave Cylinder as well?
going from a WRX to an LS is .. different. power-wise I like the instant throttle response of the integra, but even at higher RPM it feels like my WRX in turbo lag. going from AWD to FWD is alot different too, I can't really power through turns anymore and expect to keep a line. But hey, I'm lovin using the 87 gas and getting that high MPG. Maintaining the Integra will be alot easier too.

Here's how you get an intake on a budget!!! It's a DA but same concept, only cost me $5. I'm a cheap *** college student too so flame all you want, I got my aloe vera

Looks like ur on the right track with ur integra! Suspension first, then saving for a turbo kit
As for this question, here's an article showing how to remove the factory spoiler: http://www.team-integra.net/se...D=551 It's better to just remove the spoiler rather than swapping hatches with someone because of the differences in color of ur trunks. Plus you'll spend only like 5 bucks for the 5 plugs you need to buy to cover the holes. The size of the plugs are 4 7/16 plugs and 1 7/8 plug. They are called "nylon plugs" found at home depot in those drawers that have nuts and bolts and washers and crap. Then just get some touch up paint to the plugs to match the color of ur car. Then ur set!
BTW, team-integra.net has a lot of great DIY and hot-to articles. It'll keep you busy for a few weeks. Good luck!

you can actually use a 9005 bulb for more light output....im a broke college student as well, and i tried it! it actually works pretty good! gives that super white look! you couldnt fab the HID kit, and i wouldnt recommend it.
the way it works is, the 9006 bulb has one bump inside the connector, while the 9005 bulb has two. you will wanna snip off both bump stops with needle nose pliers, then cut down the sides where you would twist the bulb into the headlight. take the 9006 bulb and compare it to the 9005 bulb. the sides should be identical so that the 9005 bulb will fit in the 9006 headlight socket.....kinda get it? its pretty simple! i would go with a bulb that has a blue tint....like the sylvania silverstars, or even some piaas!
gl with the teg, and hit me up if you have any que's bout the HID ghetto-fit!
(IMO, it works good enough if you cant afford a retrofit or even a plug and play kit)

i have used eagle one never dull as well, and it works very good. i would recommend baking the headlight then cleaning the inside, because the never dull is like a polish and fades after time!

just buy the intake from ebay for like $30, and later upgrade the filter to k&n
