I own a 97 and the automatic transmission has started to act up and I wanted to know if there are performance upgrades out their for my tranny? If so what is out their and who makes them. Also what are the costs. I was also wondering if this would be the time to put a 5 speed in because the motor already has 10psi to it and I am about to go for a lot higher horse power. What all would I need to buy and around how much would it cost me? I heard of a company Called level 10 and they were supposed to make a stage 3 turbo tranny upgrade for my transmission but I have never found the company.

 

Decide now if you should swap for a 5spd or search for a company that makes performance parts for a 5th gen auto( i dont know of any but i havent searched for it on the net).

The excess heat from the turbo manifold and turbine+downpipe probably doesnt help the alread well known weak 5th gen auto trannies.

I vote swap it.

 

Start saving and searching for a swap now. Your gonna need it eventually but you wont regret it. All the info is here just search.

 

How much does the swap generally cost?

 

The total for mine was $1700. 600 of which was for the used tranny and flywheel. Most the rest is obviously labor.
