Blown head gasket????
My friend just gave me a call and said his civic made an "awkward noise" and when he went to check the motor it was leaking coolant. Sounds like a bad head gasket huh?

What noise?
Does it run?
Compression?
Misfire?
cmon...He could have hit a possum (weird noise) and the radiator hose got caught up in it (leaking coolant).
Anything could have happened.

i agree with the flux capacitor comment 
it could be a number of things. water pump, thermostat housing, heater/radiator hose as well as head gasket if it is leaking coolant outside of the motor.
If there is coolant in the oil, it is almost always something more serious.
