I was looking to buy some headers but not sure which ones to get. what headers do you guys think are best for a d16y8?

Header - singular - you can only have one header/bank on a Honda unless you run 2 duals which is a complete custom setup as far as I know.

Anyways.

Just buy a 60 dollar one off ebay. A 4 cylinder engine as it is doesn't gain much from bolt-ons and low-power, SOHC, under-standard displacement Honda engines (D series) are even worse at gaining power from bolt-ons.

You can go with a DC Sports one for 250 bucks - and maybe gain 2-5hp at the wheels. Or you can spend 60 bux on an ebay header and gain 1-4hp at the wheels. In terms of stock D series motors, just keep it cheap.

Plan a build out - don't just look for upgrades.

Like if you wanted to sink 3-4k into it you can make it eat GSRs. What do you want to do with this engine? If it's just a daily driver with an occasional track day just slap a 60 dollar ebay header on it - it's not worth spending a gazillion dollars on some DC Sports or Toda header when it'll only net you &lt;10whp max.

well i wish i could drop 3-4 k buh im ona buget of about 1500 bucks rite now so i was planning on getting a header intake maniflod n then save up for a jackson racing super charger or buying a turbo kit

With a JRSC you replace the intake manifold.

So there's no sense in buying an intake manifold for your car.

Also, since Hondas have sub-standard displacement motors, they don't gain as much power from supercharges as a fully built 454 would. So stay turbo.

If I were you (which I'm not) - I wouldn't put a nickel into it.

Start saving your money and start shopping around. Read up on how to assemble your own turbo kit and do it. That's the only way to get serious power out of a SOHC 4 bangers w/o dropping big bucks on it. Since the turbo mani replaces your header - don't bother with the header if you're going to turbo. Though the intake manifold is an option if you're going to turbo, but I wouldn't waste my time with it.

Don't "buy" a kit - piece one together yourself. You can personify it to how you want it to be, not how the company intended.

If you're planning on a turbo kit, don't waste your money on a header. $1500 is already roughly what a Greddy bolt-on turbo kit will run, so if forced induction is your end goal, I would just continue to save a bit more and put all the money towards that.

 

Dont let all these people discourgae you. You can still do some bolt ons and get respectable gains on a d16y8. There was another post of someone w/ i/h/e and vafc w/ 133 whp or so. Not to bad considering stock is somewhere near 105 or so whp. And also, you dont always have to buy everything brand new. You can get a dc sports header on hondamarketplace.com for 150-200 easily in good condition. Thats 100 -150 cheaper than new. Same applies for other mods you can get used but in good condition.

okay read the second post its HEADER with no S and DC sports are garbage anyways
