Default quite a few problems.. need some help

okay. so here's the deal.

i just bought a 97 prelude. automatic transmission. noticed a noise in the exhaust. i'm pretty sure the noise is from a broken catalytic converter...

now. the check engine light has come on. scanner shows that its something to do with either the MAF/MAP/BARO/VAF sensor or something.

the car ran a bit rough when the light came on. but it worked fine again for a while. the check engine light even went off on its own.. somehow. but then it came back on again. and today i noticed a small amount of white smoke coming out of the tailpipe. first thought was blown headgasket. but after checking the oil and the water.. all seems fine. could be wrong however.. so i drove it home. made it about 10 minutes from my house after driving for a good hour at least. and then the car started revving up higher than what i had the gas pedal at. i had to let off for it to stop revving up. and then it started to do it and wasn't accelerating hardly at all and i had to pull over. i waited a bit and started it up and tried to go and made it the other 10 minutes to my house....

so.. not sure what is going on with it. at all. i have no idea if the sensor problem could be from the catalytic converter. or if it could all be related at all. i have heard that these things have some pretty faulty automatic transmissions.. so is it possible that these are separate problems?? would a blown head gasket possibly cause these problems at all? need some help...

firstly, be more descriptive with your thread title

secondly, get a helms manual for your car, and follow the diagnostic flowchart for the MAP sensor. the high rev issue sounds like it is related.

Okay I hate too butt in and change the subjct but my computer is in the shop and I can only reply to topics not start new ones from my phone.

My car wont start this morning. It cranks when you first turn the key but it wont kic over. Now the battery seems fine and the starter seems fine(to my knowledge). It has done this before and it will eventuall start on its own for some inknown reason. But right now it wont crank on. Does anyone think they know what the proble.

sorry. couldnt really think of a better title seeing as how i really didnt know what the problem was.

thanks for the post. i was planning on getting a book today. hopefully its just the map sensor and nothing anymore major than that..

could something being wrong with it create the slight white smoke i had?
