Damn sorry to hear that, have any before and after pictures of the accident? Seems like there might be a case if you were injured and can prove the injuries were from the accident in result of the airbag NOT deploying. But other then that now.

Haha, I forgot all about it, PM him with as much information as possible about the car, he's very trustworthy and a cool guy, I'm pretty sure 99.9% of the :locals" here in the forum will say the same.

She probably didn't modify her car either. Honda will try to blame him for disconnecting a sensor, or switching the stock wheel on from any aftermarket one, etc. I would if I were them.

He wants to sue Acura for his airbag not deploying.

I see.

Were there any injuries sustained that would have been prevented by deployment of the airbag?

How is Acura liable for a car that's well out of warranty?

Yeah, its like a good dead center hit from a professional boxer.

Not sure if you have a case though, the airbag system is very complicated and unless you can prove that a fault actually happened (not sure if the Honda SRS system from the Integra has a data recorder) but you'd need to be able to prove that, and have a buttload of money to just throw away.

So leads me to wonder something.....

If you were in an accident in a usdm R with a jdm SRS ITR steering wheel, in the event that you were seriuosly injured bc the equipment didn't work properly would you have a case?

Yes its oem equipment, but whats to say it was working when you bought it you know? You have no way of actually knowing?

I disagree.
(1) It had been "tampered" with and (2) it was not USDM OEM and would not necessarily comply with US regs.

Furthermore, its entirely possible that under the stated circumstances that even a completely stock system would not have deployed the driver's side bag.

Furthermore, it seemed that you'd said the passenger side bag did deploy, so if you'd left everything alone ...

Oh, by the way, isn't it illegal to messing with the airbags w/o a waiver from DOT?

... yeah, you've got a case if you want to pay a lawyer!

I don't think the OP ever said he had a JDM SRS steering wheel. I think Jon D was just asking a hypothetical question.

I realised that after I posted, but I still answered the "hypothetical" question, as well as some additional considerations.

The steering wheel is not OE, or even oem for this market. You'd have no chance in court.
