Default ? about a dc2 ls obd1

What's up H-T? I have been reading H-T for about 2-3 months now and I figure I should at least ask a question about my integra. I've been driving a 95 integra ls for about 8 months now. I picked it up for 3 grand with 156,000 miles on it. It is a gift for my girlfriend of 2 years and some change. I would let her drive my car but she doesn't know how to drive a standard, and I don't have the time right now to teach her. I like to drive the integra sometimes cause it's a pretty fun car to drive. I think you guys can feel me on that. So, back to my Ls auto. Few questions on how i should make it more fun to drive as a auto. I all ways wanted to do a lsvtech, but if I had the time, I would do it the right way and completely rebuild the whole motor and change tranny to manual. Like I said, I don't even have the time to teach my lady how to drive stick. Which leads me to my questions.

My friend has a Type-R head complete with cams. Without doing a complete build, do you guys think its okay with the amount of millage the car has to do a swap? If yes, can I still keep the auto tranny and still get the vtech?

My other question is, are you able to chip an auto tranny? I see it done to manuals all the time but has any one done it to a auto? If a chip eliminates on how high you rev the car, in a auto how would it know when to shift?

Just another stupid question I had about these fun little cars. My car only has a short ram intake and that's all. I all ways love import cars. I only own one domestic and it was a chick magnet but I hated driving that V6 convertable camaro. My plans are to turn this integra into a track car someday or just do a header, intake, exhaust and chip deal for now and just buy a corvette like my pops next year. I have a great kill story, but it wont let me post. Oh well !!! One more question. I completely forgot to ask.

Has anyone dyno tested those electric superchargers? I think they are a scam. It reminds me of a blow dryer someone is using as a intake system. Does it work? Someone out there, maybe not you but someone you know has tried it. Key me in please.

Having a 4speed auto transmission will completely kill any and all fun factor associated with the car. I taught a complete moron how to drive a standard car in an hour or two in an empty parking lot. I suggest you take an hour or two out of your day and teach her the basics so she can at least be able to go practice herself. Having a standard allows you to keep complete control of the car whereas with an auto you really don't. To answer your question, yes you can keep the auto tranny and keep vtec, but refer to the explanation above. I believe they had auto GSR's in Japan but I dont know if they were 4 or 5 speed automatic. Auto computers have a separate section in which the computer controls the transmission. If she ever wants to mod the cars valve train further, she will not be able to utilize a higher power band because of the fact that it will always shift at standard red line, you may be able to change that point, but I have never heard of it. The electric "superchargers" are a complete scam. If you want a track car, I/H/E with some mild head work done to it and a good tune will get you a fun track able car. I hope I answered your questions.

(FYI lots of people despise the use of vtech instead of vtec) Welcome

The car is a DC4 not a DC2. A DC2 is a GSR or an ITR.

There are P72 JDM ECUs for a B18C1 (VTEC) and an automatic transmission. The part number will be 37820-P72-##1. You will want the OBD1 version.

Thomas Knight Turbo makes a legitimate electric supercharger. The problem is that it requires banks of batteries to power it. Most electric superchargers are a scam.

A normal turbo would be far cheaper.

Thanks alot, for your replys. I must have missed that, I spelled vtech and not vtec. My bad. Good looking out. Did not know the car was a DC4 and not a DC2. Now I know, and knowing is half the battle Still want to know if chiping a auto works and should I go with the complete rebuild or just slap the new head on? Parts for cars like this comes easy out here.

u know its actaully not that bad building an auto. i built my brothers auto (4dr ls) and it pulls harder even with the stock ecu. but when i tuned it and a chipped it ran better, much better. but not to long ago there was a post about this and i learnd of a company that makes racing torque converters. and i bought it now it runs like a beast. i hate to admit it but when i drive my dc2 (2.0l gsr) and then drive my brothers car when i dont feel like driving manual im not disappointed anymore. but of course i still prefer my car over his my bad forgot to mentiont hat the company is called level10. and also u can do what was mentioned earlier, the jdm gsr comes in automatic. so that coupled with a build and the jdm auto ecu would a big impact from what u used to

Honestly, no its NOT worth doing the swap. YES, you could hypothetically do the swap, but it would be pointless. Honda's (and almost all non-turbo 4 cylinder engines) suffer from an acute TORQUE deficiency.
Auto tranny's have a torque converter that (poorly) replace a clutches conveyance of power from the crankshaft (via the flywheel) to the transmission. The factory torque converters in honda's have about a 600 or 700 stall speed, meaning that they only let the engine climb 600-700 rpm above where it was.
These "torque converters" should really be called torque sponges, as they soak up what little torque your girlfriends B18B makes, rendering it an official "grocery-getter". If you are really serious about doing any mods to her car, the first one should be a good lesson in driving stick, the second should be a good GSR tranny.

Cool. That helps me alot. I think im going to find some time to teach her how to drive a stick on my 03 lancer OZ. It's a stick friendly car. This dude down my street has a B16 trans. for sell for 175, is a gsr trans. better? Someone told me that a B16 has shorter gears. With a lsvtec swap all motor, it's a better trans for it. Is he right? Remeber im planning a track car.

I would take the si trans. It is aggressively geared and would be great for a track setup, just make sure its hydro and not cable. Sell your old trans to a dismantler for some extra cash and do the LSV

Yeah, I gotta S4C out of a 00' SI, and its fun to drive, but she might get tired of shifting it all the time in day-to-day driving. I usually don't even go through all the gears when I'm driving around town, and traffic is a MONUMENTAL pain in the ***, but if you're planing on track days too, I would definitely get the B16 tranny. Third gear pull is ****** AWESOME and from one gear to the next drops you right back down into the beginning of vtec. Its a great tranny. Get a LSD, too.

He's in Arizona, so traffic shouldn't be a problem.
