I have a 97 accord se with a cam seal leak. I bought the car recently and I have a 50-50 dealer warranty. He will pay 50% of the cost of parts and labor for the oil seals and timing belt. The parts are between $70 and $100 his cost with no markup. How many hours labor is usually charged for this job? I also said I want to replace the water pump at my cost while they are in area. What would be the labor time just to do the pump while it is readily accesable be?

 

to change a water pump while having the timing belt off already shouldn't add any extra hourly rate. It's only an extra 5 bolts to remove the water pump after the timing belt has been removed.

 

wow, took me that long just to get the crankshaft bolt off. Thanks to TouringAccord, when the crankbolt finally came off, it was somewhat smooth sailing. I had the hardest time getting the seals off if anything. I agree, once the belt is off, the water pump is cake. While you have the timing belt off, you might as well change all the seals.

Just finished my timing belt. With my brothers help and TouringAccord's document, took us eight hours together. I replaced all belts, spark plugs, wires, seals, thermostat, rad, dizzy and rotor, all water hoses, all O2 sensors, transmission oil, added retainer ring for seals, valve kit....etc. Purchased most of my parts from hondaautomotiveparts.com. Damn seals took me 45 minutes each just to get off. Running great now.

The dealer says 5 hours labor for entire job. Water pump,belt and all seals. He said he will pay for half the labor If I pay for parts at his cost. Under $100 for parts and 2.5 hours labor is my end. Under $300 total is my share. I think it's a pretty good deal since it's a 50-50 warrranty and the only thing he legally has to do is the oil seal at 50% cost.

 

5 hrs is correct to do the complete job,,
t-belt, water pump and ALL the seals,,( cam, crank, balancer shaft, )

 

for under 300 out of your pocket, I'd say that sounds like a good price as well.
