Default Distributor the same on 90 civic DX and 89 CRX SI?

My 90 civic DX died today with the 1.5 litre dx motor, and I believe it may be the distributor. I have an 89 CRX SI parts car, will the distributor be the same?

Any help would be great, thanks

Yes it will work but you have to re-pin/swap the plug.
The Si has an extra sensor the DX doesn't use, so you need to use the DX plug on the Si distributor and only use the wires on the original DX plug.
Look at the wire colors at the plug on both distributors and match them.

Thanks for the help. So if the colors are the same matching them straight across will work? Does anything else need to be touched?

the SI distributor has a crank sensor and the DX does not. The DX distributor will not work on a car with an Si computer but in your case you dont have to worry about the sensor and like the previous post said check the wiring.

Hmm I guess I will have to check the wiring when I get home...if the colors dont match am I hooped, or is there any diagrams that would show if they are the same but different color?

Very easy. The only tricky part is removing the pins out of the plug if you have never done it.
Look at the Si distributor plug, it is round and it has 7 wires.
Look at the DX distributor plug, it is rectangular and it has 5 wires.

The DX distributor plug does not have the blue green and blue yellow wires the Si distributor has.
keep track of where the wires go and just sawp them, they are the same except for the blue/green and te blue/yellow which the DX does not use.

Thanks very much for that, I appreciate it a lot as I need to try and get this thing running tonight. I am at the point where even if I just take them off and butt-connect them together that would even be ok. I will study both and write every color etc. down in case I make a mistake

Oh another thing, I will mark where the rotor is and where the body of the distributor is, but will I need to do the timing when I put it back in?

make it easier on yourself instead of de-pinning the connector cut the wires and swap them around and SOLDER them.

OK maybe somebody can help me with my situation...

I was driving the civic (DX) yesterday, and the car suddenly started missing slighly and I lost a bit of power, then it fully died on me and would not start. So I checked the code and it was code 8, which I believe is the top dead center sensor. I talked to a few people and they said thats in the distributor and this is a common thing to fail.

So I got that SI distributor, and tried matching the wires , but the car still wouldnt start. I literally tried a lot of combinations and there was still no spark. Any other suggestions on what it could be? I am goingto try and find an actual wiring diagram to make sure I amdoing it right..

Thanks for any help
