Default 17 Year-old's Semi-built Thread (Laosakademiks)

8/27/07
Intro
Hello everyone. First off, not to sound corny or anything but i would just like to thank everyone on Honda-tech for so much that was offered me. I always enjoyed reading people's build threads to see everyone's project and I thought Id start one before its too late. Ill give a little information about me, my car, and my current project.

Myself
Well My name is Roger. I was born on 03-08-90. I like long walks on the beach...lol jk. but Ive got into cars when I was about 13-14. And for a little side note, all the stuff was paid for by me minus the LS swap my parents brought me last year(read below).blah blah blah, enough about me, lets get onto the car.

Car
Well the car is a 1995 Honda Civic. It was origianally brought for my sister as her first car. By the time she was graduating high school, this was the same time where I just got my license. So the car was a hand-me- down. The car was originally automatic D15 and then I performed the auto-manual LS swap after my sophmore year in June 06'. I later found out that the motor has been ragged on when i brought it and it gave me problems ever since. I left the swap in to about December 07' then decided to pull it out. I then swapped the d15 back in but also had to convert the d-series to manual. I drove with that motor for a good while and it was a trooper! A couple of months ago, I got a d-series turbo kit from a good friend. I tried to turbo the d15 but broke the T for the oil feed into the block. I tried to block it off and run a sandwhich plate but it kept leaking oil really bad. blah blah blah...time for another swap(current motor). I brought another d15 for 50 bucks and my friend offered me his jdm d15 vtec head. So i did a mini-me swap and turboed it. This is my current motor in the car.(Will post pictures soon). Well thats the story of my car. But while all of this was happening, I was secretely building something on the side. All will be mentioned in the next paragraph.

My semi-built Ls/Vtec edit: My fully-built Ls/Vtec
Ahh yes, when all of that was happening, Ive been building a motor on the side. This is where I keep you guys updated every step of the way. Well last December, I decided to go turbo Ls/vtec cause i picked up a gsr head. I origianally wanted to run with a stock block with simple reliability stuff and aim for 300 to the wheels. I then said why not, and go forged. I picked up some used Srp pistons and that was the start of a mild build. But then, for some reason...the srp wasnt good enough for me. I wanted to buy everything new to settle my mental mind. So i worked my butt off ever since to save up for my current parts. I sold my gsr head about a month ago to pick up my current head/tranny. And as i type this paragraph, my block is at the machine shop getting a fresh bore/hone and my big boy head and tranny is stashed away in a little hiding spot. I'll just break it down into simple catagorys about what ill be running because i thought it was cool when other members do it

BlockWill update this weekend with picures)

you're exactly a year younger than me. March 8th FTW!

Im also building basically 3 projects on 2 cars. PM me if you're interested. One of them is a lot more similar to yours. I'm aiming for 600whp though.

Just let the dude build his car without him having to hear about you having twice the projects and twice the horsepower. Honda-tech allows you to have your own little thread just for that purpose.

Whats up Jonathan, I took the block to Neil's...i know some people in town have doubts about them, but i figured they can't mess up on a bore and hone....or can they? ...lol. it's not like i asked to them build the motor.
I'm not gonna lie, Ive been wondering for the past 4days how the block is gonna come out. its either they do a really good job, or i find myself disappointed.

Lookin good so far, I was 17 when I started playing with my car and to look back at it now it's the best road I've ever taken. Met lots of cool people, have a fun *** car, and learned a **** ton during that time. I'm 19 now.

Good luck with your build, looks like it should be fun. I wish I would have started with a Bseries, lol.

Yea, like my friend said...this game is like crack. Ill slave away at work, spend every last dollar of my check..and go back to work and do it all again. Honestly, when this gets done, Im going to be mean to everybody...NO JOY RIDES! lol, why should i bust my *** at work at 3 different jobs, working crazy hours during summer, and saving for almost a year to ride in a ~450whp car, and some random kid ask me for a ride...No!..Go spend your own time/money and build your own car...sorry, didnt mean to sound corny. and i have met some cool people as well, very down to earth people. but then again ive meet people that i dont wanna meet.

...and i should of stayed with the D. Turbo D's are coming back and taking over.lol

edit: i just saw your sig,...and yet another good example of turbo d, nice numbers

Biggest piece of advice that I will tell you from experience.

Learn how to tune your own car. Even if it's only a simple street tune so that you can drive the car correctly to your tuners or make changes persay something goes wrong.

I taught myself how to tune, best thing I've ever done.

(Sidenote, my car hasn't put down those numbers yet, they're my goals. I'm working out some boost creep issues so that I can just concentrate on tuning the car when I get myself on the dyno. )

GL with you build. Why are you going to running a type r tranny? IMO the short gear will give you alot of wheel spin/wheel hop off the line with the power level you will be at.

hey laocivic i'm going to vist some fam in your area this weekend. in Roebuck/greenville area. you wanna meet up? my fam just moved down there about a year or so and i don't know anyone that's into car, just OG and that **** is boring!!! Neils Cylinder Heads by the DMV off of samsonite. I kind of regret it because right after I brought it to Neil's, some friends said i should of took it to Mikes, I heard of mikes speed shop but never knew they were here in town. I know the prices are better and they also said the work is better.
And I will be doing the assembly, but not by myself, because honestly..i have no idea what im doing when it comes to assembling the bottom end.
