Coolant flush: engine drain bolt washer
I am doing a coolant flush this Sunday. I have a 3G GSR (94 if it matters).
My Helms tells me to replace the ENGINE DRAIN BOLT WASHER when I put the engine drain bolt back on. My question is: can I buy one of these from the Honda dealer (say, for a B16A), or am I going to have to get one specifically for the B18C? Are they different?
Thanks,
Rainmaker

Not sure if you can get one from Honda, but make sure you have a BIG container to catch all the coolant--when you take out that bolt it comes out like crazy and gets all over the place
when you drain the radiator a good deal of it comes out. reusing the washer is up to you, personally with a little older car such as yours I'd replace it. An Acura (Honda) dealer should have it.
Well that's precisely my question... Can I find a Honda washer that will fit the GSR motor? The Acura dealer is expensive and far away... While we're at it, same question for the tranny drain and refill washers also. Can I use some from, say, a Civic Si tranny?
Thanks,
Rainmaker.

I went to a honda place to get my tranny fluid, and when I got it two guys were discussing it, and said I'd need the two washers, same as the SI. He gave me two of the same size, but on the GS-R the fill bolt's washer is bigger. I just ended up reusing it w/ no problems...they say "replace" because it's a crush washer, but they don't really crush unless you torque the hell out of 'em.

oh, so on the tranny they are crush washers? good to know, good to know. I wonder if the coolant one is a crush washer also...
you mean the drain plug on the black, you don't have to change the washer cause it is not going to leak, they always ask you to chang washers and seals on the book

I'm about to flush my coolant as well. The Honda dealer wants $4.?? for this f**kin' washer! Are they crazy? We have a torch here and I'm thinking about reheating the damn thing to reuse. $4 for a f**kin' washer makes no sense

In order to run water thru the radiator to flush the system, you have to remove the thermostat and reinstall the housing w/o the thermostat. When you remove the housing, coolant will gush out (ask me how I know). So either have it come gushing out the front of the block, or have it come gushing out the thermostat housing and get it all over the tranny and everything else around there, take your pick.
