Default Limit of jdm itr header?

ive read through all the header comparo tests and such and i realize that the high end race headers obviously make the best power, but i cant find any mention of the actual power/flow limit of the header.

im running a 12:1 cr ls/vtec with no headwork, pro1 cams, 50mm itb's (coming over the winter) and the jdm itr header out through a 2.5 inch exhaust.

im guessing the header will be the limiting factor here, but at what point?

I've seen plenty of respectible numbers from these headers. Sure, they aren't the "best" out there in terms of power production, but they aren't nearly the P.O.S's people make them out to be here.

That is an almost impossible question to answer. My general experience has been that headers from DTR, SMSP, RMF, and Hytech will all make better numbers in the higher RPM range. If your budget is able to support one of these headers they are definately worth the money. But, if your budget is tight than headers like one of the many Hytech copies or the JDM ITR you have might be better choices. What kind of power would you like to see from your motor?

hoping to hit 200whp and low 13's/high 12's on 22 inch slicks, although i do more road racing/auto crossing anyway.

Ah yes, the 200whp mark. With some good tuning and proper timing maps 200whp can be made with your JDM ITR header. I noticed in another post you were considering ITB's. You might want to stick with a manifold for daily-driven reliability.

eh ive seen plenty of dd itb's setups, in fact thats the reason for running them due to the crazy are under the curve they can make, but that was a whole nother 5 page thread i started.

and its not really dd anyway, its a weekend/nice day toy.

and i only say 200whp because i feel like thats whats needed to get to the very low 13's

No problem, take it easy. I know there are numerous ITB setups on daily drivers. All I'm trying to say is that these days there are several intake manifolds available that can get you to your target hp mark (you are using one of them right now). Do you happen to have a dyno of your engine with the current base map tune?

Here is a pretty nice hytech copy header for people on a budget:

It is a good header. May not make as much peak power as the high end headers, but it is also less prone to the torque dips that some high end headers demonstrate.

the point is i dont need to drop 600-1000 on a header if i can meet my goals with the itr header i got for 50 bucks.

im not looking for all top end either.

imo they dont seem as bad as everyone says they are but the best way to see if its going to work four you is to use it and dyno it. if ur unhappy with it than sell it and get something else. personally i wouldnt use it but im not you. for the money you could go with a hytech relica header and ull probably see more gains with the hytech replica than the itr header. personally as long as you run a 2.5 inch exhaust and the header has a 2.5inch collector i dont see how you would have any problems.

yeah im not gonna get around to dynoing now until ext season...so we'll see i guess.

headers up for sale but no takers, so if it sells ill get a replica, if not ill see how it dynos.

thats a really good fact to know that it wont give that dip.

is that due to the collector/runner style?

keep that header get it rewelded and ported you can make the 200 mark. ive done it and now moving on to the replica to try and get 215-220ish. with the slicks your running you should be able to get into low 13s high 12s with 195hp. i was going 13.5 on 205 drag radials with like 192hp and the jdm r header with the afformentioned reweld setup.

What is it that you modify and reweld. I have seen cleaning up the ports, but what welding are you doing?
