02 Accord CEL Acts up at 3000 RPM
Hey all. Hope someone can give me a hand. I have an 02 Accord with 74K miles on it. About 2 weeks ago, the CEL came on right as I was pulling in my driveway. Didn't notice any problem other than the light. So I drove to Advance to have the codes pulled. Came up p1381. Research on the net shows something about a Intermittent CYP Sensor or something to that affect. On th eway home from Advance the light went out and styed out.
Til today I was driving down the Interstate and nottice a stutter, then looked down and seen the CEL back on. As I was driving I noticed the car ran perfect until it reached 3000 RPM exactly. As soon as it hit 3000 RPM it would kind of stutter almost like something was holding it back, really weird. I stopped the car, switched it off and then back on, problem goes away, CEL goes off about 15 minutes later.
I am not a mechanic but logic tells me sensor problems possibly since switching the car off and on fixes the issue. Maybe I am wrong though. This is such an exact thing, acting up at exactly 3000 RPM I thought surely this has been seen before. Thanks in advance for any help as I will try to fix it myself if I can...

Hey man,
i looked into this a little bit tonight. if i were you i would start out by checking all the wires around the distributor. Make sure nothing looks worn or damaged. Also maybe look at your spark plug wires just to make sure.
the good news is that my helms doesn't list the actual sensor as the problem for this code. that is good news because it is BURIED in the motor. You have to take off the balancer belt. booooo.
bad news is it does list the ecu as a possible cause.
end of the day i usually feel that if something is broken. its broken. if it happens occasionally it isnt mechanical.
and maybe thats horse%&#$

Thanks. Weird problem I know. I will look at the wires around the distributor and spark plug wires too.
I read somewhere the VTEC kicks in at 3000rpm. Is this true and could that rpovide a clue to the problem? Also, problem has still not come back so I am not too awful concerned at this point.
Thanks again

my fiancee's car is doing the same thing as you have described...she has a 2000 accord lx and it has been to 2 different mechanics...1 which replaced the crank angle sensor and distributor wires plugs to no avail...and the other is working on it....did you ever get this resolved... and if so can u tell me what it was....Thanks in advance
DTC P1381: CYP Sensor Intermittent Interruption
problem is intermittent failure I think all it need is a tune up if the car reach 100k replace plug, wire, cap n rotor then it should be good..
