with the plug side in your left hand, lid off, look at the bottom of your right hand. is there an open spot? or a 28 pin chip sitting onto a socket?

that tells you if its chipped. if its chipped for a dohc... that just depends, whats on the chip?

ECU's are not chipped for "DOHC VTEC", they are chipped for that engines basemap, the number of cams make no difference. The ECU can also correct fuel trims up to 20% rich or lean on its own, (once that mark is reached, a system too rich/lean code is thrown.) and it will also adjust its dynamic timing accordingly. Biggest problem with that is the WOT timing and fuel tables, which are static. (O2 is ignored on decel and WOT.)

There is an EPROM in there, what base timing maps and fuel trims it has on it I have no clue.

if you sell it on ebay, you will get anywhere from 90-130. sometimes you can get up to 150. lately ecus are getting much cheaper.
