I had a 2.2CL same specs. I had to rebuilt the tranny and replace the shifting solenoid. hopefully he doesnt have to get it rebuilt. ask if the car jumps when is shift meaning when he leaves in on d4 and the car shifts automaticly. and it can also be the speed sensor its black and its on the lower passenger side make sure its cleaned and tight.
