KYB GR2
What do you guys think of these shocks/struts? I have skunk2 coilovers right now and stock shocks, and I'm bouncing all over the place. Are the KYB GR2's nice or should I spend the extra money and get something nicer? Car is a DD
I rode in an EG that had the gr2's and a coilover set up. It wasn't too bad at all and the car handled like a champ, but I would go with the agx. I picked up a set of 4 on ebay for like 325 shipped. I like the options it gives you. 8 in the rear and 4 up front.
I don't know where you live but my gr-2's exploded the first winter I had them. Could've just been a fluke. But my friend's crx had them too and he went through 2 sets and replaced them after winter. I agree with mr. cobra, I would go with agx or koni's.
You should spend the extra money on something else better. IMO, they were a bit weak for my taste as a DD. When the road is not smooth, it does not give you the confidence one needs. I sold my Civic a year or so after I got them on, so I can't offer a long term review.
I would rank them lower than Tokico blues in terms of control.
Like others have told me, save up for Koni, or at least the adjustable AGX.

Koni yellows are the top of the line, and the choice for any coilover setup if the funds allow for them.
GR2s arent don't have the dampening to handle coilovers, so they will be bouncier than something that can handle them such as the AGX struts.
If you are on a budget, I would try the skunk2 struts since they are supposed to be built to handle a lowered ride, and are can be found for $250 a set.

for Koni's, however I used my first set of GR-2's for 3 years, and they are still in ok condition, and Ive got a new set of them on my new car. Ive been pleased with them, thats why I bought a set for my new car. My car has H&R Springs on it, and my ride is pretty nice. Ive never driven my car through a winter, so I cant tell you if they would explode or not like the other guys' did, because I dont drive my car during the winter. Its up to you man, seems like majority is calling on Koni's. I agree that they are a good strut, but I also will say that the GR-2's arent bad either.

its not hard to work with adjustables... its just turning the valving **** so dont listen to that. if hes talking about tein springs they are **** and he would need a stiff shock to accomplish anything. the gr2's are a OEM replacement tho so not upgrade... go with the agx's or koni yellows. adjustable is no big deal

i think the agx's are better... just an opinion. i have heard tokico's blow out easier. KYB has been around a while and if i wans't getting yellows i would get the KYB agx's. your car though.
my buddy had tokico blues for 2 weeks and went hard on them once and blew them up.

idk bout kyb's or koni but i rather go with some monroe senatrac shock/struts, they are really good had them on my hatch rode/handled like a dream, really comforable and for bout 1/2 the price of the other and plus i wouldnt pay all that in some shock unless you gonna put them to use foreal though......

I guess I meant if you have the patience. Sometimes you'll notice that taking them out of the box all the screws are in different positions. If you dont have the patience to go from passenger to driver and front to rear then don't bother. If you don't know how to feel the difference between too stiff rear passenger shock and a too soft driver front don't bother, you'll spend more time screwing with it than its worth. That's just my opinion I prefer just to bolt it on and grip like a mad man.
And I dont just rock the springs, it's a full tein setup.
*EDIT* All that first paragraph doesn't apply if you get the ones that have an actual **** that says "stiffer" with a clock wise arrow on it. I believe those are koni's. I've seen some adjustables that just have a flat head screw that you you turn to green yellow or red. Those are the ones that seem to be a bit of trouble because the screw can be turned beyond the colors and it's kinda hard to find your place after that. Like I said it's just my opinion. Bottom line don't bother with gr2's.

Correct me if Im wrong, but if you just slap some springs on some stock struts, they blow pretty quick and give you a crappy ride right? Ive had buddys slap springs on thier stock shocks, and its not a good situation to be in. However, Ive been riding on 1 set of gr-2's for 3 years now with GC coilovers, and another set for 1 year with H&R springs. Definatley nicer than OEM, and way nicer than OEM with springs, and neither pair has blown yet. I just dont understand how that is not considered an upgrade from OEM.

gr2's are only slightly better than oem.
And besides, the reason most OE shocks blow with a drop is that we're putting a drop on shocks that already have 80k+ on them. Of course it will blow the shocks.

Eh, definatley a little more than "slightly" better, not much more, but definatley better than OEM. 3 years and still running with mine. My buddy slapped springs on his OEM's, about a week later they were no good, his ride was bouncy as fawk.
