my car has a LSD somehow?
Ok so i bought this crappy 88 civic hatch for a grand from this guy that knew nothing bout cars, has a d16y7 swap'd in it which he tried to say was JDM even though it says USA on it lol. Got a cheap ebay header, even cheaper CAI and a pep boys coffee can muffler. None the less the car runs fairly quick for what it is, running mid to high 15's on crap 87 gas and spinning for like 10 ft off the line. Thats where i was suprised, my nice lil 10 ft patch was laid by both front tires! I cant find a shure fire way to tell what tranny it is without pullin and counting teeth. I dont picture the guy ever putting a aftermarket LSD in it since he half *** the rest the car. It seems gear'd fairly low, i smoke em through 1st and bark em in second, tires are kinda shitty though. Any idea's on wut tranny it is or a way i can tell would be helpful

LOL!
Pull an axle out and see if there is a differential pin. If there is one...you don't have an LSD.
Now Git' R Done!

Isn't there a way you can just raise up the front, put it in gear, and turn one wheel to test for this? I cant remember how its done, but I seem to recall something like that working.

OR...just lift up the front end of the car....Spin One tire and the other wheel should spin the OPPOSITE direction..
so if you spin one clockwise...the other would be counter...if this is happening you have an open/NON-LSD...
easier then pulling an axle out looking for the pin..

A torsen diff acts exactly the same as an open diff if there is no torque on the diff. In other words, if you lift both wheels off the ground and rotate a wheel you won't be able to tell if there is an LSD.
do you ever get peg legged burn outs? if so, no lsd.

i highly doubt you have a diff in a basically stock d-series Ef. All open diffs will lay down posi-strips as long as each tire see's equal traction. my b18 Crx does it, my old jeep did it, my girls jeep. Its not until 1 wheel see's more traction then the other that it will stop spinning, in other words, hitting uneven pavement, gravel or dirt on the road, lifting a wheel or getting one light, etc...
You dont have a lsd. Most hondas will lay down even strips if the road is flat and even. If you go around a sharp corner and punch it I bet the inside wheel will spin.
well over the weekend had time to tear this car apart and see wuts going on, car has a chip'd pm6 ecu swap'd in, has a si tranny with a LSD y7 block with y7 head with a6 intake manifold and a b series or h series throttle body now mated to a custom CAI that runs down infront the passenger tire with a K&N filter and protective shield around it. Has a aftermarket header now with a full 2.5 in full exhuast no cat. Short throw shifter, car is strip'd in the back. Curious to see wut she runs at the track, new high flow fuel pump, fuel rail, and injectors are soon to come with a 55-75 hp shot of nitrous with some good tuning and 1 or 2 step colder plugs

so the spinning the wheel while they are off the ground is not a concrete method??? I really was hoping to refrain from pullin the axle... and to the nay sayers who call bullsh*t to each there own everything i said was true and no reason to lie, only thing that I could be wrong on is the LSD I guess there is only one true way and thats to pull the axle... so guess thats wut i gotta do then, keep ya updated and will start a thread on the entire build soon

There is something seriously wrong with your car if giving it throttle through a corner causes you to crash.
