Default name brands vs cheap off the truck produces (TURBO)

So I have people that say so many pro's & con's on the fact of getting name brand official turbos(like off real web sites) or just go cheap & get it off ebay and save lots of money. I was talking to this guy today and he said if I go ebay I'll end up destroying the motor on a half *** job turbo kit and it would be even more money then if I went name brand tubro I was just curious to see people thoughts and what they have done name brand or ebay. On the other hand I had this guy tell me that ebay is safer then it used to be and if anything goes rong you can get your money back. I'd just thought to hear some comments on this topic cause xmas is goin to be coming and I want to shop for my car. thanks u all lots for your input

well i feel kinda the same as the first guy ... i have a couple of friends who have built their cars off of all ebay parts ... their cars ended up being faster and built alot quicker ... but within a couple of months running them hard on those parts all of them blow their turbo motors ... now i could be that they didnt do the job right but i wouldnt doubt their skills ... for my friends who built their car off of name brand parts their cars did take alot longer to build but they ran harder for a longer amount of time ... in the end though after running for about a year and a half one blow their motor cause of not tunning the turbos right ... so i may feel better buying name brand but if you can get the job done right and your sure about how your driving your car then you can do ebay ... good luck with you choice ...

pick up the august edition of super street and read all about it .. its well worth it .. and you will see kits that work in comparison to kits that belong on ebay .. every turbo kit can go wrong you need to be sure and do things right and have lots of money to throw at things thats go wrong .. shortcuts are actually failure cuts.. you take one and you risk the whole project. there is alot more to making a turbo car than buying the kit from say turbonetics or greddy, HKS, apexi, blitz, garrett,.. they get you the main things you need then you have to go buy parts to suport it like computer management, injectors, building your motor if you plan on higher psi, possibly using a different oil pan, or pump system, upgrading your clutch possibly adding LSD for the torque, and upgrading tranny internals if need be.. got exhaust to go with that turbo, how about axles that can take the power.. have guages to help you mind the engine.. new motor mounts to prevent slop... very few of these things i listed can be done afterthe fact when you want to make power, none of them can be passed up when your doing things right .

on the guy who said its safer because you can get your money back... are they gona pay for your blown engine and anything else that went wrong when something you bought broke... the answer is no. you can take them to court if you can find them, and you will loose because they can just say you used the kit for unsugested purposes.. with fine print and thats just the kit part, your engine part will be thrown out of court completely.

simple principle: you pay for what you get.

There are so many horror stories when people cheap out.

Do not buy the knockoff turbo's on ebay, i had a friend who bought those garret knockoffs and luckily he didn't blow his motor BUT the first, less then 5 miles of that turbo being on (brand new), it blew up (the turbo that is). If you do buy a turbo off ebay make sure it's not a knockoff and it's the real deal. You have to know what you're looking for. Ebay isn't bad but just make sure you don't buy a knockoff and you'll be alright. My civic ex i built from the parts trader, ebay and it was fast but i knew exactly what i was lookin for.

just be carefull and make sure you know what you're lookin for. No knockoffs!
