I hit this pothole tonight.

This was not cool. Be careful when driving in DC! I've been in touch with Public Works and am debating whether or not to call my insurance co. I can't really tell, but the alignment feels off, and the side skirt and front bumper cover suffered some damage.
It's too bad the hole is filled with water, because it's over a foot deep (just hard to tell.)
The cones were placed there after I reported it to the police. It was a lot darker than it looks in the pic as I had lightened it up some after uploading to the computer.

I lose at least one tire and one suspension component a year here in NY. When I first got my AGX's, I went down FDR Drive with the fronts set on 3, hit a crater and drove one of the bump stop plates all the way down the shaft of the shock and almost drive the shaft up through the hood. Left a nice "dimple" where it impacted.
15" wheels
progressive rate springs
soft shock settings around town
They don't solve the problem, but they help minimize the annual damage.

That's one of the reasons I traded my 16 to 15's. I remembered working at this gas station in 295. I noticed cars after cars are pulling into the station w/ flat tires. They told me it was a huge pot hole by the exit and that there no way to see it since it's covered w/ water and if you were able to see it, there is no way to avoid since it was so big that it covered the exit.
At least New York avenue is fixed.

i hit a crater once on the expressway during a construction project. 16" wheels/40 series and tokicos, i hit this muthafucka so hard i destroyed three wheels, right rear strut assembly, and two tires.
i called CHP only to learn if i wanted to file a report it would actually be my fault b/c no other vehicles were involved. i rang the pres of the const. co only to learn he was a ***** who could care less about my misfortune.
all i wanted was 800. to replace my cheap *** wheels/tires. i got fu*ked. the good news was that was the encouragement to buy my (now former) Racing Hart CP-R's. it woked out, i guess.

yesterday i launched off my oil pan on the i-95, this bump int he road was the size of a speedbump. me and my friend lifted off our seats, and as i cringed and looked into my rearview i saw sparks rolling along, and it was still light out.
If there were no "uneven pavement" signs or anything acknowledging the fact that the pothole was there, you might have a good chance having them repair the damage, otherwise, they're gonna say you're sh*t outta luck. Sorry man
you guys think thats bad..come to chicago...we have two season here "winter" and "road construction"...the roads suck here all the time
Maybe you didnt notice the huge cones on the road? A foot is still pretty damn deep?
Brian
The cones were not there. If they were, surely my autocrossing instincts would made me "smartly" dodge the moon crater in the road. As Brian said, I told the cops about it and they had the cones/barrel put there.
To follow up, DDOT actually called me and have made arrangements for me to receive compensation for damages done, so it seems there will not be any problems with that. Instead of calling some mysterious phone number out of the DC Gov't phone directory, I went straight to the cops, and they hooked me up with the right "department." I'm sure the countless others that screwed their cars up on that same hole were too stupid to do anything other than to drive on. They'll probably be screwed.
