2002 Accord Automatic
Hi Guys,
The transmission on my 2002 Accord started acting wierd last week. When I come to a stop there is a hard downshift. When I start off, say from a red light, the tach moves quickly to 2500 -3000 and it shifts hard again. The car has 110,000 easy miles.
The check engine light is on and the green light around D4 is blinking.
I took it to a dealer this morning and they want $3k for a new transmission.
Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?

for a used tranny...
for a used tranny...
How many miles on the car? The tranny warranty on pretty much all of these auto Accords has been extended to 100K miles due to constant problems. You should call Honda of America and give them your VIN and they should authorize a no charge replacement.
I had a similar problem for my 2000 accord sedan and I changed my transmission oil if you haven't done so within the last 20-30k miles. I suggest you purchase Honda transmission oil (ATF) 5 quarts. Aproximately $35 and $50-70 labor at a local mechanic. I took it to my mechanic and changed the transmission oil and it jerks a little when I shift, but not as significant as it did before. Eventually you'll probably have to rebuild it or do a tranny swap.
You can also try to put some Lucas NO SLIP transmission oil to stop it from shifting hard. I had a similar problem in a mitsu eclipse 91 , and it actually fixed the problem in that car and the cars been running a good 27,000 miles since i put it in.

This post is gibberish and should be deleted. The CEL can and will come on for transmission problems as well as emissions and other drivetrain issues.
The 98-02 transmissions definitely have issues but most 02's are not covered under the warranty extension. Unless some dealer takes pity on you and goodwills it the only other possibility of getting someone to pay for it would be to contact American Honda customer service and ask for help.

Where did you get this information?
My mothers 2000 Accord V-6 transmission just quit with only 16000 miles on it.
It will be 8 yrs old in November so I need to know where you got your information please.
