Default D16z6 to B16a swap

[B]I have a 1996 civic hatch. I just got it and blew the motor. I just pulled a D16Z6 out (minime swap by previous owner) and i bought a JDM B16a came with wiring harness and ecu. My first problem is that the B16a has a cable clutch and the motor i pulled is hydraulic. Can I just go to a yard and get the cable setup? Then i still have the problem of the cable speedo. can i pull the electronic speedo sensor out of my old motor and put it in the B16a and hard wire that in? I guess i will just leave it at those two problems for now.

oh wow, thats a big problem. you know i belive HAsport has a hydro to cable conversion because all K20 motors have cable trannys. but if you got the conversion yes, that still leaves the speed sensor. hmm.... what i say is sell that transmission, its a good 600 bucks in your pocket, then add 300 bucks and buy a LSD y21 transmission. its got same ratio as the 96 type R. trust me, this will save you the head ache.

if your running a stock ecu and your speedometer is not working dont count of your vtec kicking in at all. you'd have to get it chipped so the speed sensor is disabled.

here is a transmission chart at this web site for the gear comparing.

A little harsh to the truth

But yes, X2, but a hydro tranny and sell the cable one.

Does that have the shorter (4.7) final drive??? Stock 4:40 final drive means 4krpms @70mph. I can't see going much shorter than that on a daily driver.

I bought it from a local shop that got it from Texas. (JDM) I have already learned that the tranny will be the least of my worries. I have found that the engine is out of a 88 CRX.
From what I under stand, I need a B16A (Vtech DOHC) out of a 92-95 Civic; that should be Plug & Play for the most part.
Now I just have to see if the shop I got the last engine will work with me so I'm not stuck trying to sell the one I got.

check it out homie.

get an obd1 distributor, alternator and a hydro tranny with clutch.

also, pick up a set of aftermarket mounts and shift linkage.

i recommend avid.

youll also need a 99-00 si rear tranny bracket and del sol dohc radiator hoses.

if you want a/c, you need a del sol p54 ac bracket or cr-v.

also pick up a new thermostat and if you think you can do it, a new timing belt and water pump.

find the wiring diagram for obd2->obd1, take your time and solder it and shrink wrap it.

buy 3 gallons of oil and 3 filters, mobil 1 5w30 and a 3 m1-104 mobil 1 filters.

run the first 4 quarts through for 100 miles, change it and repeat, your motor will pick up a lot of lost power in built up oil since the motor is so old.

do the swap, wire it up, take care of business and youll be golden.

or take the swap back.
