Problems after recent tire rotation / rebalance
I recently had my wheels rotated and rebalanced at the shop where I got my tires (free rotation and rebalance for the life of the tires) and have been noticing a squeeky / metal scraping sound coming from my front wheels.
I took a look at my wheels about an hour ago and noticed this:

It appears to me that they have replaced a nut with an open ended one, but it also looks like the stud has snapped too.
Can anyone explain what exactly is wrong with this?

I dont know what you mean by what is wrong with this. That is some shady work done by that shop. If it was my car i would have that shop pay for you local honda dealership to repair that broken stud. I had a local shop break three studs on me with my last set of new tires even after i requested the tech not spin my lugs on with an impact. i told them to expect a bill very soon. they tried to get me to let them fix it and blah blah blah. expletive that **** tho man. once shady always shady make em pay.
Thats shocking workmanship. Whoever did the work was either inexperienced or didn't care or both. I would go back to the shop, so them, and tell them you are going to your own mechanic to get it fixed and if they dont pay you'll see them in court. You could have been hurt or killed if you were drivin a bit hard and been unlucky. Goodluck with it.

no matter how experienced you are, you have to definitely NOT care, to pull some crap like that. i'd be raising hell at the shop if I was you. see about getting who ever worked on your car fired. and have another competent shop replace the stud for you and send them the bill.

yeah thats shaddy work but how "recently" did you get this done. if its been over a month i would say they probably wont do anything for you and just say you did it.
if the stud broke off when they took the wheel off, they should have let you know right then. but some people are just stupid. the scraping sound is most likely the dust sheild behind the brakes scraping on the rotor. they probably hit it with the wheel when they removed it. i work at just tires and i would never take my personal car to a place like that. some of the people i work with and work at other ones are really slack.

I got the stud replaced today and a new matching lug nut. I took the car out for a drive after getting the work done and could still hear the scraping noise, but it's not from the side of the broken stud.
I took my car back a few minutes later to get the noise fixed and after pulling the wheel off I was told my shock(s) (they have 147,000mi on them) was bad and causing that sound. I opted not to have any thing done at the time and I'm going to be getting a second opinion on the noise. The dust shield sounds like the culprit.
I haven't had any problems with this place before and dont have immediate access to jackstands (only a pair of ramps), so to save time and hassle I usually have the wheels rotated there. I didn't think people could be so careless and stupid to screw something this simple up.
