Swapping D-Series, How Long?
Hey, well my motor blew and I'm paying my mom's mechanic friend to swap my motor for me.
He's putting in another 97' D16y7 motor in for the replacement of my blown one. My question is, how long will it take mostly? With everything aside, just straight on work on the swap.
He's claiming 2 days to do this swap. Which, imo, is pretty long just for a D series lol. Especially when it's just bolting into the same chassis that it used to be in.
Thanks.

a person who knows what hes doing,,,, and has all the tools.... should take 5 hours or so without running into complications... i say that lining the mounts are the hardest part... and thats pretty damn easy! everything else is plugging the harness in.... hope you arent getting charged by the hour....
it took me 16 hours in 2 days to do the b series swap into my eg with the help from a buddy of my with hand tools only , in my home garage.we both know how to do the swap but it is time consuming cause we didnt have any air or power tool.so 2 days is understandable
did a z6 to d15b swap in 7 hours with hand tools and a motor lift. my personal record haha
edit: your swap will consist of
drain fluids
hook motor to lift
unhook all lines
unhook all harness clips
undo shift linkage
undo exhaust...
remove motor mounts
lift motor out
do those steps in reverse.
refill fluids
crank that bitch
(that's basic, there are more things envolved but that's pretty much it)

Yeaa, supposedly this guy knows his way around Hondas. But the words that're coming out of his mouth has been BS lately. I don't really trust the guy doing the swap, but I don't have any time to waste. School's comin up, work and all that.
I'll tell you guys how this goes.

when i did my d17y8 to a b16a2 swap it took me 17 hours of work time to put it myself with little help and that was after checking for no air bubbles in the rad and all the other bullshit and i also changed the clutch flywheel etc and the timing belt.

3 or 4 hours w/ air tools, depends how long he works.
I don't work consistently, so my **** takes longer.
It shouldn't take two days though.
He might mean 2 days with his current backup - shops are rarely on time - he probably means just like 2 days from when you drop it off, to getting it back - which is pretty normal.

Not knowing what the hell I was doing, I went through the entire process of taking my old SOHC engine out, and putting the new SOHC in and running, in less than 14 consecutive hours. That was including replacing clutch/flywheel, etc. Knowing then what I know now, I could do it for the second time in about 5-6 hours.
