iduno. i dont see why not. it's just freaking oil.
BTW, off topic...but i see you live in ottawa. Is RT. 71 open yet over by starved rock? WTF is going on there? It's been closed all summer. that's an awesome road.

I think so. It sucks too I really wanna tear through it before fall. I was gonna set up a meet at starved rock but since the road was closed i said screw it. And my friend just bought a miata. I'd like to recreate some scenes from Initial d and of course the scene from the simpson's where homer jumps springfield gorge, as we crash through the guardrails.

i used to work @ honda in georgia... and the ASE certified techs told us you can but if you switch from synthetic back to regular oil, you car will burn oil... due to weight or density of oil... or something like that.... but yeh its ok to go from regular to synthetic...

Yeah I picked up 5 quarts from wal mart 2 days ago. Thats a deal. But yes you can switch to synthetic. Sometimes on high mile motors people have issues with oil leaks but you should be fine.

ohhhh lol for some reason i thought this whole time you wanted to switch the other way around.
Yeah its fine, dude. You shouldnt have any problems. Sometimes guys have a problem with burning a little mobil1 in their honda motors. If you do, try using royal purple...for some reason, a lot of people say it works wonders for honda high oil consumtion motors.
I've run Mobil1 in my B16A, and my SR20DET, and my S2000...absolutely no oil burnage. So i guess it's hit and miss. Give it a shot.

They misinformed you, because that's incorrect.
Yes, you can switch back and forth. However, on certain high-mileage engines, switching to synthetic can present the possibility of exposing oil leaks in deteriorating seals. If your engine has been running this long on conventional oil, I would suggest just sticking with conventional and perhaps using a "high-mileage" formula if you wish.

Is that because of all the detergents in synthetic oils?</TD></TR></TABLE>
That's the primary factor, yes.

i've been useing a synthetic blend for about 10k and have about 175k on the block (don't know what was used before, 4th owner), do you think it would be a good chance it would leak if i switched? I want to go royal purple 10-30
It's really hard to say, but at 175,000 miles, I certainly wouldn't bother with synthetic. Just use a quality conventional oil and change it at reasonable intervals. There's no reason to spend the money for Royal Purple on a Honda engine nearing 200k miles.

I beleive syntheic oil is made up of smaller molecules. That's why it will "find" leaks. It also gets super thin when you get it hot.

One of the main reasons synthetic is supposed to work so well is because it holds a constant viscosity. It thins up a little when it gets hot, but not as much as conventional oil. It also doesnt turn to molasses when it gets really cold.

Hey all,
same sort of question - would it be worth it to switch to synthetic at 122,000 miles....I'm just about to do an oil change and was wondering this exact thing.

I'm at 130k and use fully synthetic. No problems.

What do you mean by "worth it"?
See my above posts for information regarding switching to synthetics on high-mileage engines. Yours isn't a unique case.

Switching to synthetic on a higher mileage enging is worth it of you like taking risks, such as your engine all of a sudden burning 2.5 quarts of oil in a matter of +-1000 miles, and spinning a bearing. My 90k d16y8 burned/leaked no oil when I bought it, and after I switched to synthetic because of the rigors of my job and extremely cold winters, it burned almost 2.5 quarts in between my level check that occurs roughly every month. Now I have a nice rod knock and metal shavings/chunk in my oil
My DA with 140k never burned a quart between 3-5k oil change intervals, and I used synthetic for 25k miles before I sold the car. My hatch with the old *** first gen b16 never burned much oil with synthetic either. I had to buy a car that was half as old with half the miles to have one that took a **** on me

FYI...Valvoline makes a synthetic blend designed for high mileage motors. I have been using it on my Y8 for over a year now with 165 on the clock. No problems whatsoever. I love the stuff

i have an ls/vtec swap in my civic and it burns some oil after seeing high rpms, is this anything i can fix (i heard a new pcv valve could fix it). it only happens after intense vtec sessions.
