went to the dealer with my friend for his car and while i was there i asked the guys there at the service dept bout some of their prices... well this guy brings up the valve adjustment and specifically tells me not to attempt that one on my own cuz i have a 94 and he said something along the lines of "news specs are out" in regards to the valve adjustment and should be done according to those for better results. Not sure if he was ****** with me.. but just thought i'd mention it
1 Because after so many miles your valves get out of the specs that they should be adjusted to
2 uhhh Its kind of a long process to explain if you've never done it before. I'm pretty sure somebody on here has explained in detail the whole process. Maybe try a search
3 Some people say between 10-15k miles. But I'm not sure exactly (I do mine every 10k)
It's actually a very easy process but if its your first time it might be a little complicating and will probably take you more than an hour. After doing it a few times it becomes really easy, it takes me between 30-45minutes do it now) Just make sure you have a valve adjustment tool (not necessary but makes it waaay easier), feeler gauge, torque wrench (for when your tightening anything, beware... valve cover studbolts snap very easily if to much torque is applied), obviously a set of tools, and some Honda bond. I might be forgetting something... its late and Im tired.

I just did it on my car the other weekend. It was my firstime ever doing it, let alone removing the vlave cover. It wasn't that hard. It's not worth paying the dealership to do it.
you also need those 4 spark plug wire rubber thingies too. should always be replaced when you open your valve cover..so i heard.
Also. What is a good torque wrench for the valve adjustment? what are some model numbers you guys use??

I did mine myself. Not hard at all and definately not worth paying a shop to do. Replace the spark plug grommets also. I ended up with a spark plug covered in oil and halfway out of the hole.
definetely do it yourself. Its a waste of money to have a shop do it. Get the right manual and some tools. before you do the job read the manual on what you need to do, study it, and vision it. Then go out and do it. Just remember not to drop anything into your head. Have fun!
I have done the valve adjustment myself a few times and its not that hard.. if its your first time it maybe take a while because your new, working slow and don't want to mess anything up.. but its not that hard a process.. do a search I have typed up the procedure before so its probably in the archives..
here is a weblink/guideline for you:
http://www.bseries.net/html/garage/valveadjust.php
(note this is on a vtec motor.. check and verify what your clearances/specs for your motor are)..
make sure u get the valve cover gasket, some hondabond, and spark plug gaskets, you might wanna get a valve adjustment tool from http://www.snapon.com or http://www.harborfreight.com , you'll also need a ratchet set, some sockets, and extensions.. good luck..
on a side note my friend asked a shop how much for a valve adjustment.. they wanted $100...

i agree w/ the guys above, learn how to do it yourself. make sure u have the right tools and get a HELMS manual, not to be confused w/ haynes(although those arnt too bad either). the how-to links posted above helped me a lot when i did my first adjustment. if your still not sure, just pull the valve cover and note the jamnuts, where the cam meets the rocker arm(where u put the feeler gauge), cam gear markings, etc. u can do it.
