Default Help: Used Bearings Check For Wear

Just pulled the B16A2 apart after a mach up and 1,000 miles of driving. How do the main and rod bearings look, normal wear or bad scoring?

Upper Bearings

Cylinder #1

Cylinder #2

Cylinder #3

Cylinder #4

Lower Mains (1-5)

Lower Rods (1-4)

Could I re-use the main or rod bearings if they fall into proper clearance?
Thanks,
-Mike

#1 mains looks bad. (Timing belt too tight, just speculation but the bearings look better as you move further away from #1).

Get some bearings from DonF. You will pay more than ebay but the advice will most likely make up for the difference 50x over.

i agree 100%. bearings would be one of the top things not to re use. and ur mains didnt look to good especially 1 and 2 from the crank pulley.

Not the most sanitary of engines. Lots of dirt and debris will scratch up your bearings in no time

The mains here were OEM from Honda. The rod bearings were from Donf, a tri-metal one-size fits all bearing. I plastiguaged everything before hand and had the crank mic'd and polished.

kind of a bummer, not because I wanted to re-use them... but I took my time assembling the motor. Although, the valve seals bottomed out, broke and wound up in the oil pick-up upon inspection. No telling what that could have done to the bearings.

Thanks for the help guys.

Clearances for the rods were somewhere between .0015 and .002 of an inch, about .00185 if I remember correctly.

That link was helpful! According to the link; the mains in particular had some oil starvation likely due to some blocking of the oil pick-up.

I changed it a few miles after start up, then again at 100 miles. I had to tear it down due to a technical difficulty right before it reached a 1,000 miles.

Yep we discovered chucks of the valve seals and the springs lodged in the oil pick up screen. Im pretty sure some of it got thru, it look pretty bad to were it probably restricted oil flow. Hopefully we can finally get this Beat16 running like a champ, it was kind of disapointing after all the work I put in and this thing started smoking bad. I think the big problem was those darn valve seals. Donf did all work to the head before and currently has it for the second time around.

OE Crank Pulley.

Yeah, Donf has the head again. He told me he was sending it back two or three weeks ago but I still have not recieved it. Maybe I will have my daily driver up and running again soon.
