Default AC Trouble

Today I was driving and notices that my AC was blasting warm air.

I took into pepboys for an inspection, they say they arnt sure till their electrical dude comes in but my compressor isnt turning on.

I asked if they checked the fuses and they say they did but I dont trust em too much and will double check myself whenever it stop raining.

When I hit the AC button, it feels like its kicking in, i cant hear it cause its raining like a little bitch, but the RPMs go up when I turn it on, but no cold air.

anyone have any possible suggestions?

Don't trust Pep-boys in my experience.

Other than that, I'm not sure, need some info about your car like, year, mileage, mods that may be interfering, or any recent maintenance or mods done then you noticed this.

01, 120,000 miles

only "mods" was a lighter pully that lowers powersteering and ac performance by 20% below 2 rpm. but i dont think its related.

So I think I know why the AC doesnt work.

After coming home I park and sit for a bit, i hear my fans kick in and making a nasty grinding noise. I kill the engine and inspect teh fans fearing that one of the blades broke off, instead I find this wire jamed in it.

Where did it come from? Is it a ground? Would it have something to do with my AC not working?

I almost want to say it's the 1-pin lead that goes to your A/C Pump. Follow the wire back a bit, and see if it's leading down from the driver's side of the radiator support. Also, check your A/C Pump to see if there's a wire connected.

yeah, i'll do that tomorrow morning, its too dark now and the engine was too hot to get close.

but is that a ground wire or what? and where does it connect to?

If my assumptions are correct, it's the lead wire to your A/C pump, and it's what controls when the A/C pump clutch engages and disengages. It would be the reason to why your A/C isn't working properly, for sure.

The A/C pump itself.

Well, looking at it more, Im starting to think its a sensor because its only one lead. usually any motors or anything else would have two leads, this one only has one.

ANother big issue is now when i turn on th AC i get this terrible grinding noise, I think its the compressor.

Gonna take it into a shop tomorrow and see whats wrong, gg at least $750

You're incredible. I'm telling you where the single pin wire lead goes, and you're trying to disprove me. Could you just stop trying to out "think" this and just read what I'm typing? Why do you always have to be so dang difficult?

Albeit it's difficult to tell in this schematic, there's a single wire lead on the plug-in for the A/C pump, and a lead from the pump itself to ground, that's separate from the plug-in.

ok... so, whatever that plug is for, where did it disconnect from?

and what could cause that grinding noise?

Yet, you seem to forget the fact that I've removed my D17 from my engine bay and could actually vouch to seeing the single pin lead going to the A/C pump.

What I meant to say is they DON'T use a/c very much & I'm wondering why it would break so quick, I was just wondering if the same thing might be wrong as Killtodie's !

They got the a/c looked at & Honda said it was empty. They was a hole in it & it leaked out. They said is was probably caused by a rock or someting hard They are going to see if they can cover it under warranty, but if not it's like $600 !!

when you hit the ac button and look at the ac compressor does thae clutch lock to the pulley, if not that might be the gouund wire to the clutch and coil it might be the problem , just look for any connector under the hood missing a pin just see how long the wire is and and look in every direction "i might be right if i am good but i might be wrong"

my guess is that wire is for the a/c clutch. check the top of the compressor see if its missing anything.

you can get a rebuilt compressor and dryer for about 200, install it yourself and have it vac-ed and charged for about 100..
