VTEC kickpoint
hey i have a JDM B16A in my EG coupe and i recently had a tune done and it runs amazing. I have found however my vtec seems to be kicking way to late. It is set for 6k i believe and i redline at 8300. My buddy has a S2K and hit hits at 6k also but he redlines at 9k. Should my VTEC kick in sooner at say 5300?? I came up w/ 5300 because that is 3k before redline like my buddies S2K. Also where do your kick w/ what motor? Thanks
What do you mean you had a tune done?
It was dyno tuned?
Talk to your tuner or the person that burned the chip. It may be where it made the best power, or it could be that someone's retarded.

i did a drive tune.... he sat in the car w/ his program and laptop and set everything while we drove around for an hour. he told me that was factory setting for my motor. It kicks pretty hard which can mean its a little late. i know he knows what he is doing because he also built and tuned his D16Z6 to run 10.5 quarter mile.

That's one of those things you will need to play with.
Drive around and keep lowering the setting until it's perfect

And how would he know this simply from driving around, his *** dyno??

lol dont listen to this guy. if your tuner set your vtec at 6grand then thats where it needs to stay. if he knows what hes doing then he set vtec at the optimal rpm range before the primary lobes start to fall off in hp. IF its dyno tuned then you shouldnt worry about it.

No probally with a wideband, and a computer with a program that shows fuel and ignition maps. It the same way you tune on a dyno put instead your driving down the street.

I take it your car was tuned by speed factory. Who did the tune and how much did it cost. I have been thinking about getting a tune from them for a while now.

There's a reason tuning is done on the dyno... how often do you get to go through the entire RPM band at 100% throttle on the street?

Quite often actually. Street tuning is also a much more effective way to tune partial throttle. Most really good tuners will tune on the dyno, then go out on the street to finish up the tune and smooth the maps out. Or just do the whole tune on the street. The only thing a dyno is really good for is power numbers, even then they all read diffrently.

Because of the 2 stage manifold with the butterflies, GSRs kick in at 4400.
