RADO FASTER THAN EVER AT INDY
RADO FASTER THAN EVER AT INDY

08-20- 2007 - Indianapolis In. The first ever NHRA Sport Compact drag racing event to be held at the home of drag racings biggest race, The US Nationals, turned out to be a monumental event for the WORLD racing team. After struggling with a series of problems in the early part of the 2007 season the WORLD racing Scion tC finally started to show it’s potential with a best run of 7.46 secs @ 194.55MPH. Even though the team did not advance past the first round of eliminations no one on the team was disappointed. In fact, the entire team was celebrating and more eager than ever to get to the track again to continue the process of catching the fastest cars in the Pro-FWD class.
Crew Chief Frank Piccone was eager to give his crew full credit for their hard work and determination:
“We had an amazing event and the guys deserve to get congratulations for all of the hard work they did over the past few days. We had to build a complete new engine after we destroyed one in testing during the week, as a result we had no time to test before this event. We came to Indy knowing that we had to run as hard as we could in qualifying without going over the limit and we managed to do exactly what we wanted to. The first round of qualifying saw Chris run a 7.905 @ 179.43 MPH and more importantly it was a nice clean pass with no drama so we knew we had good data for the entire run to work with for the second qualifying session.
Utilizing the data and the input from Chris we were able to fine tune the car and in the second round we improved again with a trouble-free 7.760 @ 190.24 MPH. At this point we had more good data to work with and more changes were made. The third session was awesome. The car launched hard and we knew it was going to be a good run as the car ran straight down the lane. When the scoreboard lit up with a 7.46 @ 194.55 MPH it took a moment to sink in. The next thing I knew I was mobbed by the rest of the crew as the celebrations started. This was our best ever ET and MPH and a personal best for Chris.”
Rado - Who can never be described as a low-key kind of guy - was even more animated than usual after shattering his personal best time and MPH records and more importantly seeing his Scion tC run with the leaders in the Pro-FWD class.
“My guys have all worked ridiculously hard to make this happen. We have struggled against some bad luck this year but we all kept our eye on the target and pushed hard to achieve our goals and now we have had some payback. This is only the beginning though, we have more good data from this weekend than we have managed to collect for the entire season and we know that we can now continue to fine-tune the car and go even faster. I am thrilled that we are proving that our concept for a Pro-FWD racecar can be a front-runner and that we can challenge for the Wally at future events.
Our next event will be back at Indy in a couple of weeks for the U.S. Nationals. This is the biggest drag race event in the world and we have an opportunity to show the world what we can do. Rest assured, we will be testing and working hard to make our Scion tC a real threat at the nationals.”
Rado also wanted to give a special thanks to Dan Portera from Bullseye Power and everyone at BorgWarner Turbochargers.
“Dan has been working hard to find a turbo combination that would work for us and he, along with BorgWarner have done a fantastic job for us. We are making more power than any of our competitors, even the big hitters from the GM camp, and it all comes down to a killer turbo and a great engine package that is proving to be extremely reliable. We made four hard passes this weekend and our engine is still perfect. The other teams can only dream of being that reliable.
Another factor for us is the weight of our car. Because we put an emphasis on safety the car is heavier than our opponents by up to 400lbs. The extra weight does have the advantage of making the car very stable but we have to generate a lot more power to overcome it and run an equivalent time. This event proved that we are on the right track and more will come as we get our tune-up dialed in. Thanks for everything guys.
I also want to give a mention to all of my guys, each and every one of them is a vital part of our team and they are the real hero’s behind the scenes. Frank Piccone, Eric Plebani, Gary Kubo, Tyler Cooley and Robert Mclellan. You guys are the best.”
“I also have to thank everyone at WORLD electronics, especially my Mom, Dad and Sisters. Everyone at ACT, JE Pistons, Bosch, Ferrea, Sinister Racecars, Weisman and Momo. Thanks for your great products and continuing support. Finally as always, thanks to all of the Scion owners who took the time to come around the pits and meet us. Your support is important to the entire team and is much appreciated.”

Its been a long road for Chris to get this car where its at. There have been so many incarnations of the Celica/Scion and i'm glad that its finally paying off with some low E.T's.
He is that proof of persistence pays off.

I must say i was very pleased to see how Rado and his crew respond to the fans while in the pits. Even though they were minutes away from going up to make a pass they were still entertaining the fans. There was always a crowd around them asking turbo questions, autographs, pictures, and the list goes on and on. His sponsors must be very proud as he deffinately stands behind his supporters and not only recomends the parts he really sells you on them and takes plenty time to explain why. Trully a role model for all Pro racers, heck people in general. Its like you walk into the pits and its the "Chris Rado Show."
Good luck Chris glad to see car is performing better you really deserve some Wallys.
