**** poor platform for all motor. If you're on a budget you could mate your b16 head to a b20 bottom end. Get the head a port job and you'll be very satisfied.

I would stick with the head you already have. The flow with either head is so similar stock that swapping them wouldn't make a noticeable gain.

Yes, keep the stock head, and just swap out the whole bottom end with a b20.

If you want, it would be a good idea to get some good rods/pistons for the b20 block. Some high compression pistons would make for a nice build. But you sound like you're on a budget.

A b20 bottom end can be had for ~$300-600. If you have tools it should be a straight forward swap for you.

well i am somewhat on a budget... but only for a while...i just purchased a rhd clip. i know some people think doing a conversion is pointless but i just like it.. i just want to have a ggod platform to go on and improve it little by little in the future.. im starting to be convinced the b20 bottom end is that...the Ls bottom end is the same right?

Technically it's the same block, but the bore is different. Thus giving it more displacement.

b18b
Displacement: 1834 cc
Compression: 9.2:1
Bore: 81 mm
Stroke: 89 mm

b20
Displacement: 1973
Compression: 8.8:1
Bore: 84 mm
Stroke: 89 mm

b18b doesn't have the issue of a weak bottom end. So if you don't have the time/money to get some stronger rods for the b20, go with the b18b. It's bulletproof.

stick a b18c block under there. reliable as a swiss army knife.

lsvtec's and b20vtec's arent for the faint of heart.

the rods aren't what gives out on the b20's, it's cylinder pressure

plus, i hope this guy doesn't throw a stock ls or b20 block on his b16 head and rev to 9k everyday, the stock rod bolts wont like it too much

I've heard both, but either way the bottom end IS weak.

if its your daily driver go with the gsr block b18c its way more reliable than going b20/vtec or ls/vtec...in my opinion go gsr block with new high comp pistons, valvetrain, stage 3 cams, and itb's and your set to see 9k rpms

with that set up what times would i be hitting on the 1/4 on street tires?
