Here's an idea, buy a shift light for $15 and use the instructions that came with it.

Actually I enjoy the CEL shift light alot! You guys are just being negative because your guys dont know how it works.

My friend can do it. He has it in his lude.

All it does like a relay, you buy a small tach light and adjust to light up at lets say 7500, then you wire it with the cel and the Cel lights up at the time the tach recives the signal to shift.

In the end the CEL is still going to recieve the ECU signal is a sensor goes bad. It just wont flash once its time to redline.

It sounds alittle simple because it is. My friend does it all the time and I think it looks great. Better than havin a 5inch Tachometer next to the window. IMO

If the CEL can still function properly than I would have to say its a good idea. I was under the impression that it wouldnt.

i read an article online awhile back that shows you to make the "Si" on the em1 cluster light up when vtec engages. thought that was interesting.. thats cool how aftermarket shift lights blind you while speeding down the strip full speed. and how often do you go fast enough to need a shift light? that check engine light one sounds like a good idea, if you know, you need a reminder to shift i guess.

who ever thinks its rice are retarded, why i see it better and more stealth then having a shift light or a aftermarket tach which i bet most of the haters out there used to have and thought was cool when you have a stock tach.

anyways thanks for the links

That setup is pretty darn sweet in my opinion. Id go with that one so you dont have to rev up to the redline to see what code you are throwing (atleast thats what I got from what the dude said about running it to the CEL without it messing up code reading) incase you throw a code in the future.

Discrete shift lights are the way to go. It only took someone about thirty seconds to break my car window and jack my Autometer 5" w/light.

I mounted my vtec light on the plastic next to the clock, and it looks like it came on the car stock. Im going to mount a shift light there too. All you have to do is go to pep boys and buy a small light for like 2.99 and wire it up correctly. Im gonna put my shift light right below that. The VTEC light is amber and the shift like will be red. Ill take pictures of what my setup looks like.

I think you may like it better then forking with your dash and all that stuff. Too much of a hassle if you ask me...

hey i have my CEL as my shift light... i had it programmed in on my ecu when i had it tuned. works well and isnt too bright at night. find someone with a program and have then do it for you. i also had a launch limiter put in...sick also. and it ONLY turns on at redline so you wont get it mixed up with a code.
