Odd sound coming from engine
I've noticed a new sound from my engine recently.
When the clutch is not engaged, it sounds like a slight rattling sound.
As soon as I engage the clutch it disappears and it sounds like normal.
I've had the weird clutch issue, like some of you 01-02 owners, where the pedal squeaks because of the spring or the connecting rod down under. Could that be contributing to some odd wear on either the clutch or transmission? Clutch going?

I came across the same issue. I thought It was my throw out bearing but I found that I had cracked my flywheel in three pieces seriously.....I start like u discribe but trust me the rattleing is going to get worse if if dont check it out. The rattleing got to the point that it would rattle at idle and would get louder w/ ac on. The noice would go away if I kept clutch pedal engaged.
Like these guys said it could be your release bearing/throw out bearing, but definetly something in your clutch line. Signified by when you engange the clutch your bearing, pressure plate, friction disc, and flywheel are being pushed together, thus stopping the noise. Definetly something you want to get fixed asap.
i have the same exact issue as well. i was going to order a used tranny but now i might just take out the tranny and see if the flywheel is cracked. the only thing is that i don't have another car to get around in if it ends up being my tranny

Just in case anyone still has any further issues. I believe my issue is in the input shaft bearing.

ok so i know i need a new tranny, due to the fact that i have no second gear and it makes all these noises. so basically it would be ideal to get a used tranny (lowest miles possible) and while im at it, just go ahead and replace both of these bearings with brand new ones from honda. and obviosly resurface the flywheel (if its not f ucked) replace clutch (got that already) and replace any filters and gaskets. i guess thats pretty much it. if anyone wants to chime in, feel free.
thanks.
thanks.
