could possibly be your throttle body control sensor

The hoses that attach to it are coolant hoses, so no, don't take them off.

A hunting idle is generally the symptom of a vacuum leak.

As in, the TPS sensor was bad altogether? Or just misadjusted?

Yeah, my B16A2 also idles weird. Sometimes at a light i turn on the AC just to up the rpms. I just replaced the tps by means of swapping the entire throttle body. whats the best way of tracking down the vacuum leak?

How mine idles is... 400-600rpm dip down bounce when the extra gas is given back up to 800 then to 600 dip repeat.

how does one clean the IVAC?

I have cleaned mine and have no more problem.

One thing I notice is I have to make sure all the parts seal good before putting in back. I put silicon to seal the parts is because the rubber that does the sealing get too old and broke.

so to clean it you just take off the entire throttle body and clean everything with throttle body cleaner or brake cleaner. i will try this tomorrow and see what happens. i really dont want to buy another part if i dont have to.

if you clean it with carb clean or brake clean, you need to spray some lube in afterwards because the cleaner will dry up the rubber piece inside

IACV FTW most of the time on erratic B series idle. I had to replcae mine after i got rid of all the vacuum leaks and that was the only thing left.

Erratic idle can also be caused by air trapped in the cooling system. So, in some cases, properly bleeding the cooling system can solve this type of idle problem.
