It's the same dyno I posted up in my other thread, this one is actually good quality though... It really shows how badly the car's blowing smoke.

Now, it's not blue, or white, it's DEFINITELY black... Running damn pig rich. Is it normal for a stock Type-R to run THAT rich? Granted, I do have a testpipe, but DAMN.

By the way, listen to the VERY end of the video, hahahaha.

Yeah... I know...

What the hell could be causing this? What could be mechanically causing it to run rich? The dyno operators were laughing at the A/F ratio (Because it was so rich), they failed to mention it to me though, and I forgot to ask.

What engine management are you running? Tuning?

the thing is, when a dyno is normally run it has an extractor, if you're outside hoofing it there is air sucking it all away

it does seem a lot though, but if its a complete stocker i dunno

It's on stock ECU right now... I think it's related to the TPS, because today I got on it, and ZERO smoke came out, I did 5 different 2nd gear pulls, and every single one was clear in the back window. Typically I can see a smoke screen behind me, dancing off the exhaust.

I think the TPS is at fault. I'm going to replace it, tune it (Via projekteg), and see how it's doing after that.

I find that hard to believe. I guarantee you my car is more rich than yours as WOT (mid 10's) and it doesnt smoke like that. If your car was running that rich at WOT on a stock computer, you wouldnt even be able to start it let alone idle on its own. That smoke looks like oil or coolant to me but its hard to tell because the video quality isnt that great. plus it gets worse as RPM goes up, ie more and more blowby from crappy ring seal. if its fuel, youll smell it. if its coolant, youll smell it. if its oil, youll smell it.

what are the specs jordy? done a leakdown or compression test yet?

Have you considered a catch can? Won't solve the problem but it will put out less stuff in the rear.

Looks just like my car when its on the Dyno. I did a leakdown and I need rings. Not a big deal. I'm just going to wait untill she starts to die before the rebuild begins

Nothing yet. It looked white to me, I didn't see any blue... However, the people watching from behind, or at the rear, said it was black as could be. I was looking at it in the sunlight, so it might have looked white for that reason. Smelling the air after the dyno, it smelled like fuel, not coolant, or oil. The smell of oil makes me sick when I smell it, so I know that smell, haha.

I'm not consuming any coolant. I'm burning about 1.5 quarts an oil change, from what I'm told, that's normal for my driving style (i.e Murdering it everywhere I go).

Guess I'll run a leak down and compression test to make sure. It's not a big deal either way, it's got 103,000 miles, I was expecting to do a rebuild anyway. You know that saying, "Maintain your car, like you drive your car." I stay on top of the maintenance pretty well, I guess a rebuild is just the next step in line... Oh well, I was planning on a mild build anyway. Just CTR pistons, with a headpackage and some port work, nothing serious. Still about $5,000 worth or so.

Yeah, looks like you and I are in the same sinking boat.

i have a 00 usdm b18c5 in my 94 EJ1.
mine smoked liek that , but only after VTEC engaged. it was a greyish /white smoke.
i am currently running a p28 w/ hondata s100.
i got it tuned and leaned it out ALOT! it was rich as a bish!! got the air/fuel line pretty straight, but need a lil bit more fine tuning. the tuner cut out alot of smoke. but it still smokes.
it puts down 170hp 124 tq. i assume that is a sign of a healthy motor considering that is mostly stock with power steering.
i have noticed though, that if i get on it alot it will burn a quart liek it isnt nothing.

When I was on the dyno, it put out that amount of smoke. Keep in mind that you will not see any smoke in your rear view mirror as you drive on the highway, as opposed to standing still.

Oh I definitely can when it's smoking like that... It literally leaves a trail, that's visible even from the rear view mirror.

But today, when getting on it, all I saw was a small buff of black in between shifts. It has to be TPS related. I can feel the TPS start reading incorrectly, the car gets near impossible to get going in first gear, shifts are a pain in the ***, the throttle can't even hover (i.e Attempting to hold at 2,000RPM, the RPM will stay for a second, then drop down to idle, while the throttle is in the same position, if you life off the throttle, the car stalls out). It's like night and day difference when the TPS is working properly... Now imagine those problems I just described, with an unsprung 6-puck... God...

It's not bad to drive at all when the TPS is working properly, but when it starts reading incorrectly, I want to drive the car into an electrical pole, get out, **** on it, and walk away.

... Off topic rambling, sorry. But yeah, I think it's related to a TPS problem.

mine smokes about that much, i have done a wet and dry compression test.

CYL #3 dry is about 30
CYL #3 wet is about 50

so i am pointing my problem to a bad valve. i have already replaced one valve before and it fixed it for a while, but running incorrect cam settings fried another one. also i have a broken valve guide which isnt helping either.

I am replacing the head on friday, ill post again if thats not the problem.

I would relate it to valve train problem though just cause it seems that the TYPER doesnt hand out too much love in that department.

Quite possible, it does have 103,000 miles on it, I drive it hard every single day, and it's never been opened up before.

My Turbo LS smoked like that. My turbo was leaking oil thru the seals.

why do you think its the TPS? does the car run like ****? TPS problems will make the car drive like ***. get a multimeter and test that bitch.
