Might pick up a used one here soon, just wanted to know if anyone used these and what they think about them?

yea really.... $250 for a turbo... is that all you saw? not tryin' to hate man but http://www.turboneticsinc.com , http://www.precisionturbo.net , just spend the extra money... save your wallet in the future and a big headache...

Well, I have a turbonetics now that I bought brand new and spent a lot of money on and it has taken a **** on me, so needless to say I'm not impressed. I just wanted to know who used them and thier opinions. I'd rather buy a 200.00 turbo every six months than a 600.00 dollar turbo every year. I've had the turbonetics since last Dec.
my turbine seal pooped out on me... and guess what... turbonetics pay to pick mine up, rebuilt it, and send it back.. its new now... no headaches here... they do have warranties thats the reason to go with a big company... and as far as the used one... if your not gunna take advantage of the warranty than i guess your right.... buying a turbo twice a year is a good idea...

Did you just contact turbonetics about the problem, or what did you do? I bought the stuff new, but second party. Did you have to send in a warrenty card or some **** when you bought it, or did you just call them and say your turbo is messed up. If I can get them to fix it that would be great.

Yeah, my buddy has a garret and really likes it. I would buy one but that's a lot more money than I have to spend right now. I have a couple hundred, so maybe if I could buy one used.
dont waste the little money you have on one of those second hand pieces of ****. They're junk new and worse when used....save up and buy a good turbo the first time. If there's one thing i've learned over my past 3 setups, its that if you half *** something, you end up doing it right later on and it costs more....
^^^^ SOOO TRUE! but to answer your question... i bought mine through nopi cuz thats who my old company got parts from...and every turbo has a serial number on the exhaust side of the turbo stamped into the the plate part where the down pipe bolts up.... i just called turbonetics complained enough and told them how dissatisfied i was and he make a concession and helped me out... all you can do is try man....but thats one of the perks with the bigger companies like garret and

it can't be agreed more:
buy a good new real turbo from a name brand: get a warranty and a good peice.
Get a new asian turbo: Ok, hit or miss... some ok, some not... lots of debate between needing and not needing a restrictor, causes for failed bearings, along with the fact that the earlier ones wee poooooorly balanced.
Buy a junkyard turbo from E-Bay: ok, the $200 turbo is tempting... maybe $100-150+shipping. But that is pretty damned close to the chinese turbo right? plus 100% less chance of a cracked housing when you get it.
My fav part:
Get friendly with a 13mm box wrench, a few ratchets, 1 buddy, a breaker bar, and a socket or 2. Maybe a screwdriver if u wish. Basically minimal tools/pry bar... hammer... And you go to the local pick-n pull (or not so local) and spend about 30 min (after a few runs with practice) and find and pull a nice looking turbo. 30 min to buy for $70 or walk away and get another. The best is 1/2 off day.
Anyways, There are many routes to go... I have found a cheap source... and I have found some good turbos... you just need to know what to look for in the junk car.... that is another matter.
Just remember: old style bearings with a -3AN, use an unrestricted fitting (per Function7, I debated for a while; also re-idderating the fact the cars put out more than 100psi, and he said the length and size of hose gives enough restriction. alot of the people using restrictors on older style turbos were partially starving them). If -4AN, use a restrictor, because the extra flow in the line won't restrict enough. If your running a BB turbo, you need that restrictor, or bye bye seals!

That is a china made unit you can pick one up for $178.00 new if you know where to look.
Get you a name brand unit. I would never recammend buying a used unit from a individual.
