Default is it legal to remove an insulator for SCCA

vehicle is a 1991 honda civic std

the area box'ed in red is listed as an INSULATOR, DASHBOARD. i have heard this refered to as a firewall mat. i am a little confused if this would be part of the firewall or sound deadening material.

my question is:

is it legal to remove this insulator for scca solo class EP or DM

thanks.

Yes, you can remove it in P and M classes.

I am so glad someone finally asked this question. I have also been wondering the same thing. I'm new to the road racing world so can someone enlighten me on what the P and M classes are? Also, what classes would it not be legal to remove that under the dash mat?

While we're on the subject. I'm building a 94 Coupe and was wondering...I know that most classes require you to pull out your two front door windows. I want to run the Flex-A-Light windows that install like OEM windows for the rear side quarter panels and rear windshield, then I would like to run a stock OEM front windshield. Does this sound like it would be legal? The doubt I have is that the windows might have to be riveted in, which I would like to avoid. Anyways. Thanks and I would love to hear what y'all have to say.

P and M in this case refers to the Prepared and Modified classes in SCCA autocross. Some SCCA roadracing classes, such as Production, allow removal of such parts but IT requires keeping the dashboard. I Think removing that is OK for IT but am not sure from the drawing posted if that is just the insulation on the firewall or an actual part of the dash.

The plastic windows are legal in Prepared and Modified in autocross and in Production in roadracing but not in IT. Who do you plan on racing with? There are enough assorted rules that you really want to read the whole rulebook that applies to you, and understand it, before doing anything to your car. There is nothing like undoing mods or buying new stuff to replace things you ripped out and trashed thinking it was OK and then finding out you were wrong.
