Default Turbo Questions

Might as well sum them all up in one thread. And, brace yourselves, they are noob questions. If you can't stand noobs then don't bother replying, go read something else.

1) Can you have a fully (well) functioning turbo system in your car without having an intercooler?

2) If you were getting a turbo put into your car, but couldn't afford to buy it all at once, which parts would you get first and install....

3) What would would be better for small car (Integra) a turbo or a supercharger? Advantages and Disadvantages?

4) How hard is it to install the turbo and piping? (With minimal engine-installing-stuff-knowledge)

1. you would deffinetly want an intercooler or else your car would be super hott and that not good. 2. if u dont have all the money right now just save and buy parts when you come accross them like turbo manifold intercooler oil lines bov ect. 3. and the super charger would give you good power with no lag but little room to grow it all depends on what your hp goals are

If you were to run a low boost setup, maybe run water/meth injection, then add the intercooler/piping later. Just a suggestion.

My HP goals are "medium". I want an agile car, a car that is able of taking off real quick at the line. Top speed is not important, I just want it to be quick.

How low of a boost can you run without an intercooler? And what is this water/meth setup thing?

Turbo/supercharger, which one is easier to install/deal with in general? How is maintenance and general wear on the engine?

Just run an intercooler...it is cheaper than buying and maintaining a Methanol injection system.

Buy whatever parts you come across whenever you have the money, but dont install them until you have all of them. I had my intercooler mounted for about 2 months before i had the rest of my setup together.

On an integra a turbo setup is going to be better all around than a supercharger. There is a dyno comparison of the JRSC w/ a Drag kit and the turbo setup is much better all around.

Water inj systems can be had for ~ 300..How much does a QUALITY (not e-bay) intercooler/piping/t-bolt clamps/couplers/ plus installation cost? I would say drilling ONE hole in the t-body and mounting a reservoir, and a pressure switch is a little easier. BTW I am running an intercooler...lol

Yeah then you have to keep refilling it with methanol. It also doesn't cool quite as well and it's not as cool lol. Nothing sweeter then a big FMIC.

you can get a 350hp garrett core intercooler for 250 bucks. you already need piping anyway, and a few extra couplers and t bolts can be had for less than 50.

to the OP once you get all this how are going to be tuning the car?

How I am going to tune the car...I don't know. I'm brand new to this. I'm guessing the local mechanic doesn't do tuning. Do I need anything special to get it tuned? A chip, piece of equipment or something?

forget the water/methanol injection bull **** u need a intercoler peps use that w/m injection in high hp setups wit an intercoler and for tuning wich is the most important thing from a turbo setup if u dont wont ur engine to blow up i would have it done by a pro so go back in forced induction at the top of the page and look in tuner forum for someone local

youre going to have to find a good tuner to tune your car. theres many good ones on this site and depending where you live there might be one close to you.

save your money until you have everything ready to install. most importantly do a lot of research.

well to the intercooler thingy, if you are really cheap you could just get a side mount off a car in the junkyard(you should atleast have some sort of intercooler.

and tuneing takes a tremendous amount of time, research and money. if that is what you are willing to do then shoot for it. but you are better off just finding a tuner and haveing him tune it. NO, the local mechanic will not do that stuff.......usually.
