Default First time head builder...

Alright I'm getting ready to build a head I bought from another member off the board (doubledeucehatch). It's off a H22A4 But I've got a few questions...

If the USDM H22 has 10.2:1 compression and I have a JDM H22A with 10.6:1 compression, by putting the A4 head on my block would that in turn lower my compression down to that of a USDM motor?

Also I'm considering going with flat face valves and a thinner headgasket... a 2-layer Cometic perhaps. How much compression could I expect to gain from those parts?

The reason I ask is I'm shooting to hit around 11:1 compression by milling the head only a small amount in conjunction with those parts. Going with Skunk2 Pro Series Stage 1 cams.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Also, does anyone have any recommendations of what brand of valves, valve springs and retainers to go with?

As far as adjustable cam gears go, any particular brand to avoid? I'd sorta worry about them slipping.

This is a daily driven street car, so I need something that won't wear fast.

I'm pretty sure the heads will be the same between both motors. As far as i know the only difference between jdm and usdm are the shape of the top of the pistons which is why you get more compression out of jdm, the have a more aggressive dome. As far as the valves, springs, and retainers..... I'd go with any good titanium setup, you pay for what you get just remember that.

we've had good luck with the skunk 2 valvetrain, held up for all our motors so far. the skunk 2 cam gears however i can't say as i had one come apart on me.... i like the golden eagle cam gears personally.
