rsx type s mpg ?
Hey whats up. As of right now I have a 96 integra gsr and a 94 civic hatchback, but you know I need to step up and get something just alittle newer. I really been thinkin about getting a type s rsx, but I wanted to know what you guy get normally as far as miles per gallon. Usually this isn't a problem but in a few month i'll be moving away from home but still workin in town so i'll be driving like almost 70 miles a day. any info would be cool. hopefully you could get back to me before I go shopping today. Thanks alot for any info

I used to average 28~~ mpg's in the city when I was driving like a grandma. When I drove on the freeway home, for about 100 miles, the mpg increased to 34~~.
However, driving like an animal netted me 24~ mpg all city, and 28~ with a 100 mile freeway trip.
I have the excel file to prove it too...

hrmm, care to explain how you guys are getting better mpg than what the epa tested?
with a bunch of mixed driving, i get about 25 mpg. this is with traffic, freeway, and city streets. if its just ALL highway, im at 28-29.

rather common for myself to get higher than epa standards. On my old ep I would get 30 mpg all the time and that was doing around town driving (i live in the suburbs) and no freeway driving.
With the rsx it is not rock science. That 6th gear is actually useful if you try it some time. When I am just driving to work or school I am normally shiftin at 2500 rpm's and then once in awhile I have to hear the crossover via the intake so it goes up in the rpm band. I cruz around in 6th gear 90% of the time.
Last fill up I still got 27 and I drove the car hard as hell the entire tank. As in I spent 3 of the night I was driving around in vtec. I really don't see how you guys get such poor mpg. Besides driving habits I would look into the cars parts to see if they are worn.

thats exactly why it differs from person to person ... i get about 26 - 28 city mpg and bout 32 - 36 highway mpg ... i know the standards say 24 city and 32 highway under perfect conditions but everyones conditions differ and most people have little mods such as intakes, cat backs, etc ... these kind of mods actually help increase mileage if you drive under 3 grams (when i say grams i mean rpms sorry if it doesnt make sense it is the lingo in my area) and use 6th gear 90% of the time and your sure to release some stress off the motor causing it breath just a little bit easier ... now if you have the same kind of mods and you run your car over 4 to 5 grams or even riding on vtec and not use your 6th gear at all then your sure to drink up more gas cause you can circulate air in and out much faster ... this gets me about 18 - 20 city mpg ... simply driving habits have the most impact on your mpg ... some modifications, as probably most people on this page have, do help to increase and decrease their mpg ... also weather conditions and elevation can be a little factor as well (use of ac, and etc.)

my tuner did a very good partial throttle tune on my car, low cam angles and low ignition, thus causing me to get good mpg, im not complaining, it gets better mpg than my bonestock ep, and it runs 13s
my basic cali commute 20 mi a day=26-27mpg.
a weekend drive to sf, monterey, sf, eastbay on one tank in one day and get close to 32 mpg's. doing 70-75 keeping cool and cruising. i'm doing a fuel consumption chart since i bought my 06 typeS. the warmer months are better for mpg's than winter. i thought cold air would be better, but cold air means lower atmospheric pressure, i think. but summer and fall are great on gas. according to what i've been tracking. i've been tracking fuel ecomomy since 2001 when 91 pump gas was $1.67 !thanks for the info.

i dont think so ... because in winter colder air molecules are more compact so your mass air flow sensor picks up more air and tells your motor to send more fuel in as well (same idea with cold air intakes thats why you gain more power with cai then with short rams) ... thats why during the colder months my car runs a bitter harder and faster then it does during the summer months when the air molecules are more dispersed ...
also atmospheric pressure is different in elevations and usually it does feel colder and there is less air molecules in higher elevations but vegas would be an example of where higher elevation doesnt mean colder air

I bought my 2004 RSX type S new for fun but have kept it for the mileage. Most of my driving is in town and I normally get over 31mpg and as much as 34. I get around 36 on the highway. I have a K&N air filter that I keep clean and some pretty high dollar spark plugs that a local company tested in my car.
Most of my driving is at 5000 plus feet which may help the fuel mixture to be leaner.
