Default 91 hatch performance upgrades

I just recently bought my first Honda, a 91 civic dx hatch. The previous owner did some work to the suspension (cut springs ) and interior but the engine is all stock. Its stick and it has a d15b2.

Right now I have about $700 to invest into this car. I dont need it to be a track car but i do want it to have some *****. I definitely want to be able to take the stupid ricers around town.

What should I do to it first?

Glendale Az huh? Thats right around my neck of the woods.

Yup...dont wast your money on that motor. Save up for anything else... an B18A B16 anytyhing else even maybe a nice built SOHC VTEC motor.

May I also suggest you visiting the local forum http://www.azht.net just look in the classified sections as there are always people selling their motors there.

Is there anything I can do with the engine that it has now?

If not then whats a good swap for my car? Some people say b20vtec and others say b16a. what would i have to do to my car to make it work right? I dont really plan on putting more than $3-4k into this car, so which one can be built to work and leave me with money for other stuff like suspension.

Wow,,,,,, are you kidding me,,,,, ,,,,,,,, a b18a or even a b16a over a b20z (non vtec). This is not my opinion, like most people, this is from real world experience but hey what do I know.

A D16A6 would be a nice little motor to get you by, untill you can save up for a bigger motor, or wile you build a motor onthe side.
