Default 01 to 05 civic reliability

I have just moved to philly, and wanted to buy something automatic, I have a 94 eg coupe stick, and its too much work driving in traffic here

so. my choices would be buying a 01+ sedan or coupe, automatic. is there anything that is going wrong with this type of generation? such as auto tranny problems, engine, etc.

i see the average price of a 01+ sedan here is about 5k with higher miles.

also whats the gas mileage on these things?

thanks

As for problems all cars have problems but honda owners love the reliability of thier honda's but our generation do have faulty tranny's for automatics, you say a stick shift is too complex for philly driving and traffic, understandable, but i have heard many horror story's of dx,lx,ex civics with faulty automatic tranny's.

I heard from people saying that the 01+ generation's quality has went downwards, the previous years was the most solid.

I might look towards a 98+ accord or 96+ civic if the auto trannies really so suck

Well honda made our cars more of a commuter car than a tuner car, more sound reduced material more features, stuff like that.

the 01 and 02 civics had strut problems. I think they upgraded them from 03-05.
I had a windshield cracking problem because of chassis flex. I went through 5 windshields.

There's alot of bulletins for the 01 and 02. I suggest getting 03-05 if you decide on the 7thgen civic.

I guess i will look for something else then, the only reason i chose the 01-05's is that its good on gas, and the interrior size is almost the same as the older accords (90-93)

I might look for a ek sedan or a 03+ corolla, Im just sick of shifting back and fourth between 1st and neutral for over 1/2 an hour everyday in parking lot type traffic

Well for gas mileage you wont go wrong with the toyota as well. I have a friend who has that year and has nothing but good raves about the vehicle, not much to please the eye but it works just as well as any other civic for daily commuting. Both cars you are looking at should average HIGH 30 something on the hight way and somewhere in the mid 30's for city. What ever you choose your doing your homework before opening up the wallet just like i did. good job bro.!!!!
