How do you guys feel about '99 SI's?
I am looking at buying a really low mileage (40k) '99 SI, black, stock. Clear title and what not. Person wants $9gs though ......
Am I better off getting a newer EX for this kind of money. Do you think these are going to depreciate big time now that there are so many new body styles? I would be looking at unloading it in 2 years with 80k-100k miles.
Are these that much better then EX's? (I have never driven a newer SI, although I did have an 89 CRX SI once..)

Personally I would jump on it, just make sure you get hella security, just to back it up, I got my 99 EX with 75K on the clock for 8 grand, so for the same year, bigger motor, less mileage car for one more grand, I would take it up in a heart beat.
Are car theifs going to be after it like crazy? (thanks, already answered..... what kind of security would you recommend? how much does it cost?)
Do the SI's drive much better then EXs? How would it compare to an 01-02 EX? Would a '99 SI still be a very desirable car in two years? I am not sure if it's worth all the money for a '99 ... but if people are always going to want this particular model, I'd go for it.
$9000 just seems like a ton of money for a '99 civic.... but two years of maintenance free driving does sound nice

I would think yes to the right market, just because right now, people still by 88-95 civics for a few grand and I love the 96-00 style civics. Now since it's black, you may have a little better chance at covering from theives as opposed to the blue. Either way though, it's hard to tell how the market will be 6 months from now let alone 2 years from now.
compare to an ex, there is no comparison performance wise.
my opinion is that if you keep it in good shape, it'll be a little rarer in 2 years, and may net you near the same price as you paid for it.
is this going to be a daily driver?
if you just want to get a car to drive to work get a ex.
since you want to unload it in two years, that would be my assumption...

Its going to be a daily driver, and it'll see snow. I'll wash it real well and often... It's never seen snow up to now.
The EX's I see are not much cheaper, like a few grand, which I'll gladly spend to upgrade to the SI. Unless I consider a newer EX... like an 01 or 02 which I have seen with low mileage for $9kish

resale will always be higher than an ex.. With that low mileage.. if the car is nice and you keep it that way. .you'll have no problem with the turnout.. Go for it dude, you'll love the car

the new FG ex civics could probably give a '99-00 Si a good run from a dig lol.
a '99 civic si will have a very high theft rate and you can only do so much to protect it. do you have a garage? if you keep it in really good condition im pretty sure the resale value shouldnt be too bad in 2 years. comparing a '99-00 civic si to a '98-01 integra gsr though id much rather take the integra. the civic would be more rare though. just put layers and layers of security on it and im sure youd enjoy it.

Depends what youre planning on doin with, If its goin to be your daily and youre not looking for anything fast, youre gonna leave it mostly stock go with the Si. Otherwise get a lower trim and swap in a bigger displacement engine.
I think '99-'00 Si coupes are overrated. People think they're faster than they are. People think they're way different from other Civic models. People think they're rare than they are too.
The Si and EX drive the same. The Si has 4 lb-ft of torque over the '96-'00 EX models and 33 horsepower over the '96-'00 EX models. The EX also has a moonroof, power steering, a/c, etc. It has all the power options that the Si has.

I wouldn't get an '01-'02 EX. I've driven one of the 7th gen coupes before (it came into my dealership - I think it was a DX though) and it was a pile. It just felt cheap inside. I won't even mention the technical issues it had right away, because that could have been just that car. I've been in an EX coupe too and wasn't too thrilled then either. It didn't seem as cheap as the DX, but that could have had to do with me not being the driver of the EX.
I'd be interested to know the mileage on the 1999 Si.
Nothing is enough o deter all thieves. A visible deterrent like that though, might help along with other deterrents.
I'd stay away from it then. A find like this is rare (a car so old that's never seen snow). Black is a pain to take care of. Everything shows up on it and any damage on it (including little tiny scratch that it WILL get). Regular driving and washing will give it hairline scratches that will be difficult to hide or get rid of. Driving it in snow will only make this more evident.
If you're going to drive it in the snow, I'd suggest getting one that's already seen the snow. If you were ever in the market for a car that you only want to drive in nice weather, you might understand why this is more important to others looking for that.

I wouldn't even think of owning an Si without a garage if you live in a town with a decent population, a decent Honda community or a decent theft rate.

the '99-00 civic si does not get very good gas mileage, at all. i think it averages around 23-24mpg. some get better some get worst but thats about the average for stock. theyre barely lighter than an integra and have that torqueless b16 trying to push it. its not fast.

I own one, so I like them.
I will agree with other people that many people over-value the B16. My old DOHC ZC swapped EF hatch was faster and had 20 ft-lbs more torque.
I bought it because I think it's a nice vehicle for a DD if kept stock. And 9K for one with that mileage in good condition is a fair price IMO. I paid $9500 for mine with 70K on the clock, never was molested in its lifetime.

I have a 97 ex coupe with about 150k on it. Other then the speedometer and the TPS going out i love it. I'm getting somewhere around 35 mpg, but i think i can get more if i keep my right foot out of it. This is my 3 civic (1st with vtec) so im kinda experimenting with it.
Get the Ex, throw I/H/E and a leather shift ****/boot and you have a si. haha Either option is good but personally i would go with the ex and save the money. oh i got mine for 5.5k already with intake, lowered, 17"msr's and bumpin..? stereo. lol good luck!

Pick the Si! The Ex has no performance what so ever!
Just go to you local Autozone store and pick a CLUTCH CLUB. Or if you want you can do what I did. Go buy a clutch club and an after market steering wheel with a removeable hub.
Should make you feel better when you leave it somewhere for a while

I still think it'd be a shame to see a car like the one he found, which has never seen snow, sell to someone who plans to drive it through the snow in Cleveland winters.
