Default i want a honda. a few starting questions.

so yeah,i want a honda, iv'e done subaru and nissan and its time to move to a new.
i have fallen inlove with the look of the 2 door 1998 civic(not the hatch back),so here are a few questions.

1. what motor does it come with? ive read diffrent models have diffrent motors.
2. if so how much hp do they put out,im looking to reach atleast 170+ n/a(is that possible?)

i'd like to do a new ECU,full eXaust(headers and all the way back to the muffler) and a intake and so on,i just dont know where to look for honda stuff, any links would be great

thanks in advance.

As for '98 civics, it depends on what trim level.

You said NOT a hatchback which can mean a few things. Most likely it means the D16Y5 VTEC-E in the HX, the D16Y8 VTEC motor of the EX, or the D16Y7 motor of the LX/DX.

When you say "not hatchback" - there's still 2 door and 4 door (coupe and sedan).

Also, all '96-'98 civics are the same.

So it depends what motor it comes with based on the trim, but it's a 1.6L. The Y8 (which is the top notch VTEC motor in the EX) has 127 flywheel HP translating to maybe 105 to 110 at the wheels. The non-VTEC engines are different.

It really depends on what motor you get.

Reaching 170whp - u'll want the Y8 - it'd be stupid to try to pull that with a Y7 or Y5. Though even with a Y8, ur talking HEAVY upgrades. If you're looking for 170 I'd say boost. If you're going all motor, set a lower goal.

Going 170whp all motor on the stock 6th gen motor is gonna cost a lot.

It's not boosted, so the exhaust doesn't do **** (we're talking 6hp for a full exhaust), same with the header and intake, maybe 10-15 collectively). Also, Honda isn't like Nissan in the set that you just buy a new ECU. With Honda, you buy a tunable ECU and get it tuned on a dynometer (or street tune it, which obviously isn't as effective).

if you have questions, use the search button.
you can answer all your questions here

i wish i could find boards as neat and organized as honda-tech for other platforms.
