Default ECT Gauge Problem (no reading)

ok so.... i just noticed today that my ect gauge is reading zero (wierd i know). Anyways upon driving i then noticed it started to twitch a little. It then went to a normal looking reading, then went to cold again. Upon thinking it was the sensor, i took a quick datalog snapshot of the temp. All looked fine. FYI i have put a gsr cluster in my eg. with this in mind i thought maybe one of my wires went funky. pulled out the cluster unwrapped all wires to check my soldering job. all looked fine. Now, i put everything back in and still nothing. Any info you guys could give me would be much appriciated.

Check the coolant temp sensor on the side of the block, its a little nipple connector with a rubber boot over it, similar to the oil pressure switch only smaller, this sensor feeds the cluster. It is right below the distributor.

would this cause the ecu to still get a temp reading (as observed in my datalog), but just not the cluster?

There is a sensor for the ECU, and one for the cluster, for what reason I don't know, but there are two on the head, the other is a two pin connector right under the vtak solenoid.
