how do i know when my alternator is gone.
while i was driving my battery light, e-break light , the door adjar lights, and the break lamp bulb light. all these turned on(in the dash), but the car was still going i pulled over to see what was wrong and couldn’t find anything but i did notice a humming noise near the timing belt and the alternator side. i put a volt meter on the battery and the reading was 12.1V (with the car off) and 11.8 (with the car on ) 11.5 with the lights turned on and the fan on) is it just the battery? does anyone have any ideas about this.
thanks to all that have read this post and the help.

your alternator is gone...your running straight off battery and it wont last long, with the alternator running right the meter should read 14.4-14.5
if my alternator is gone what brand should i buy
NSA Alternator - Delco CS130D Alternator; Amps: 105
USA Industries Alternator
Orange County Alternator Alternator
Bosch Alternator
Denso Alternator
Aftermarket Alternator - All (Delco Remy) (105 Amps)
or should i get a oem honda one or if some one has any other ones that are good.
thanks

Check for the warranty offered for each, and go with the ones that offer a limited lifetime warranty. (Some aftermarket parts are only warranted for one-year, which I don't feel is sufficient for an alternator.) If you feel more comfortable with name-brand parts, then go with the Denso, Bosch, or Delco. If you have (or plan to add) an amplifier to your audio system or high-wattage lighting, then choose one of the higher-amperage alternators. Otherwise, something that matches the power of your stock unit should be fine.
I try to stay away from parts that only offer one-year warranties because I live where the temperature can vary from below-freezing to the 100's. The temperature variation puts a lot of stress on components. When I would use cheap parts, I used to always have something fail on me on the first over-90-degree day of the year! The alternator is unique in that it contains mechanical, electrical, and electronic parts (e.g. bearings, coil windings, and the voltage regulator). There's a lot of things that can wear out or fail, so you want to select a part that the manufacturer will stand behind. This is especially true since you'll probably be spending about $150 for it. One car I have needed the alternator replaced three times before I got one that lasted! The lifetime warranty saved me a *lot* of money.
