Hi everyone I have a few SUPERNOOB questions about H22 motors.

First I saw a car 2000 Prelude that was covered with black soot on the back of the car. It obviously came from the tailpipe cause you could have scraped it off the inside of the pipe. So how normal is this? (surly it's not) What can be done about it?

Is the cleaning of the EGR passage a dealer only deal? If not what do you do? Could this be the cause of the soot?

preludes run rich from the factory and bad maintenance just makes it worse.

EGR port cleaning
new plugs and wires
..etc

basic tuneups will usually fix it right up given that the fueling hasn't washed out the cylinders and eaten up the rings.

 

too rich is when you have a solid gold toilet.
