1991 Honda Accord Wagon. RPM Dropping quickly and timing belt question.
Hi all,
First off, Thank you very much for all your awesome tips on this site. You guys are the OG's of Honda's.
I have a 1991 Honda Accord Wagon (LX). I just recently changed the valve cover gasket, spark plugs, wires, pvc valve, and air filter.
Since changing them I notice that the RPMS (After letting go the clutch) drops much faster than it used to. Very strange. It doesn't stall out of anything but it does drop down much quicker than it used to. It idles at about 6K RPM. I noticed the NGK spark plugs they had in it were 6H's and what the engine and auto parts store say to use is 5H's. The PCV valve they gave me looks different too. Could that have something to do with it?
Note: When they gave me my wires they inluded the 5th wire that I didn't need for the distributor. The wires were the same rating so I figured why take them all off and get new ones.
2nd question- I was told that the timing belt was changed 9 years ago at 70K. I am now at 120k and before I go on a long trip I wanted to make sure the timing belt is in good condition. I pulled off the timing belt cover when doing the valve cover gasket. It looks like it's in good condition (not contaminated) a little dusty with white-ish dust but after rubbing it It's clean looking. Do you think I still have some time on my timing belt left?
Thanks very much!

The car should not idle at 6k. That will probably ruin the car pretty quickly.
If you don't know the condition of the timing belt, it's good to change it. Also, 9 years is pushing it a bit. I had a friend who's timing belt broke after 160k on the original belt. Besides the broken area, the belt did not look bad. There weren't any stress marks, no cracking on the teeth etc. Better safe than stranded.
