Need to buy a CAT just looking for advice
Ok, I just received my Toda header that I bought from KayOs (Thanks again) and I preordered a T1R 63mm Power exhaust that I won't receive till the end of the month or beginning of September, so I am now looking into buying a cat (first time buying a cat by the way). My thought is buying a 2.5 inch carsound cat and have a muffler shop around here make it the right length if need be (what would my length be by the way? 13"?) and weld the flanges on it. Do I need to buy flanges from somewhere or does a muffler shop have the right ones? I did some searches in the archives and found some info, but everything just confused the hell out of me because nothing was this specific. Thanks for the help guys.
If you take the 2.5" in/out cat to the muffler shop, they should be able to flange it out to fit your header and exhaust. I think Dave (SMSP) may sell pre-flanged Carsounds, worth an email.
Ya I actually emailed David S. at SMS like a month ago and he never got back to me.....kind of made me not want to buy from them.
I also re-emailed him like a week or two after to see if he came up with a price and no response.
***** Please disregard this, Dave at SMS sitched email accounts and did not get my emails ******

Instead of the usual Carsound cat I'll be going with one of the spun body metal cats. SMSP also sells these. Maybe give them a call.

That's odd. Dave's service and communication are usually very good. Have you tried PM'ing him? Perhaps your e-mails are getting caught in a spam filter.

I wasn't sure if the number was listed on the web site, but you're absolutely right.

Please IM me your email address so I can check my inbox. I recently changed my email from smsproducts@adelphia.net to smsp@comcast.net but I set up forwarding on the old email so it should have gone through. Sorry if I missed yours.

That explains it. No big deal, I've heard good things about you so I would like to buy from you, I sent you a pm. Thanks for responding Dave.

I am running a SMSP cat. Love it, installed easy, no troubles. I also had Dave add an extra O2 bung so it was eaier to tune.

I had a Carsound cat a while back but it died after less than 2 years of use and my R is not a DD. My exhaust shop guy said that Magnaflow made one of the better cats but it is a bit more pricey. Someone else mentioned the spun metal cats and I tend to lean toward them also.

MagnaFlow = CarSound as far as catalytic converters are concerned: http://www.car-sound.com

If I'm not mistaken, the spun body cats are for the most part what SMSP is currently offering.

I haven't kept up w/ all the newer cats and stuff since I went F/I. I just remember alot of guys having issues w/ their C/S cats.
