Default whining noise comming from power steering / tranny when turning..help

Hi guys,

When I turn at low velocity (parking and whatnot) I hear what sounds like the power steering making a rather embarassing whining noise. My mechanic checked it out and the fluid is topped up and the belts are fine. He suggested that I replace my tranny oil and perhaps the noise was originating from there.

Has anyone experienced this before? It has been happening for a few years now on my car.
